Wtb Mp3 Ecu Now!

Can you guys help me find one. I've looked for weeks around Austin and on the net but I keep coming up short. This ECU would be perfict for the mods I have and the ones to come.

Thanks
Bryan

Doesn't anybody reflash these computers? I mean, it is probably the same ECU as the standard Protege (just with software differences).

I know for fact that in the world of Chryslers, a Mopar Performance ECU is the same part. But, the software is different - a little more spark advance here, a little longer injector pulsewidth there. The only indicator that there is any difference is often the label on the outside of the unit.

The trick is to get the MP3 software loaded into your ECU. Why can't a dealership do this for us for a few bucks?

Dealers will not normally do this unless you know someone and they'll do it 'under the table'.
It's worth a shot, I guess. No harm in calling.
If I'm not mistaken, I think Topher knows how to do it, I'm sure I read that somewhere a long time ago...I just don't know what kind of equipment you would need to do it. I do remember reading the MP3 ECU needs to be already installed in the donor vehicle.

they CAN do it for a few bucks... you just have to have a donor ECU for them to rip the maps from... (this, however, does not neccessarily mean they WILL do it for you)

IMO, I would be careful not to spend more than $150 on one of these. The reason is, above that amount, it isn't much of a performance bargain anymore. Consider that the MP3 made approximately 10hp more than the standard Protege 2.0L. However, it also had a different exhaust system, and slightly different intake, and probably a few other minor changes that I am not aware of. Therefore, only part of that 10hp gain (maybe 5hp) came from the more aggressive ignition timing map in the ECU. If you are going to spend two hundred bucks, consider that a header or intake cam will give you more bang for the buck.

Also, IMO, this upgrade isn't for people looking to boost later. Aggressive spark advance and the higher combustion pressures associated with SC or TC is a recipe for knock. With a Haltech or other aftermarket ECU, one could calibrate right - tone down the spark advance a little, and richen up the A/F.

Juddz, Your right! But thats why I want one. I have the header and all plus alittle more. If I am correct the jspec cams are the same as the mp3 cams. And if so with the cams and ecu it only got a 10hp gain on us then I should be head of the curve already. I am trying to get every thing in line for the wagner cams. If they ever make it. This car will never be fast but with just the few mods on it makes it fun to drive. With that ECU it will have just a little bit more bite at hyway speeds! And thats what I want.

^^My thoughts exactly. I am gonna be NA for a long time. My thinking is that the ECU will only enhance whatever else I do. Plus, it IS only a little bump, but the power band between 4k and redline is so smooth now....
