why didn't you just buy a manual?? the cost would be outragiously rediculous. You should've thought ahead!

um, it was all out of my control... i was at school and my daddy went up to mazda and bought me a car and then he picked me up from school and was like, "i bought you a car, lets go get it." I wanted a manual but i think my mommy was against it... "you need to concentrate on the road and being safe, not switching gears."

not cost effective..it would cost less to trade it in and buy a manual than to try a swap, ESPECIALLY on a car as new as a 3

If "mommy and daddy" spent close to $20k on a car for you, just drive it be happy...I'm sure they would be exstatic to find out their daughter isn't content with her brand spanking new car that she didn't have to earn....and I'm sure they'd be even more happy to find out that you've taken it up to the govenor on several occasions....I've got an idea...why don't you just go total the car, and then ask them to get you another one that's stick shift!

Give an inch and they'll want a mile...

It's not just swapping part for part, it's wiring, switches, solenoids, vaccum lines and different accessories items located throughout the engine bay.

Best to say thank you and drive it, and trade it out for what you really want after a decent interval...like when the Mazdaspeed 3 shows up next year.

BTW, ask you folks if they want to adopt me, hard to pass on a free car from the folks.

ya i agree with you guys, i should just be happy with my car considering i dont pay for it or the insurance. my parents threw out 25 k for it... the thing is though, all my life i always got whatever i wanted or needed so i never really realized how lucky i was and i never really appreciated what i have. my parents caught me skipping 3 periods of school last week and they took everything that i took for granted away. now i realize how lucky i am... you guys also helped out with all your input.

Roxy, he means a shift kit and converter. Basically, the transmission gets pulled out of the car and "Hot Rodded". I wouldn't reccommend this yet. The 3 is so new, the aftermarket is having a hard time keeping up. Soon, they'll have an aftermarket (diablo, Jet, Superchip) computer programmer that will eek out a few more hp from the engine, and also allow firmer and later shifts electronically. The shift rate and timing are controlled by the computer, so any modifications done to the transmission won't work. It has to be programmed in.
