Thunking Trunk Noise...HELP
Hey Everyone,
I applaud Mazda for putiting in a really versitile truck shelf/tray system into the 3. Now I wanna find the designer and slap the **** out of them!! I just picked up my car on saturday and I am already pissed at the amount of noise that I surmize is comming from the movement of the various pieces that make up this sytem. Every bump I hit (and living in Boston, trust me its quite often) ..its a constant THUNK THUNK THUNK from the back of my car!!
I was wondering if I am missing something here. Am I the only person who notices this incredibly irritating noise? I doubt it. What have others done to mitigate this problem. I traded my 2002 Jetta with 65,000 HARD BOSTON MILES on it and it didn't rattle or thunk one bit.
HELP!!!!!

It's the tray that's clunking? I'd probably get some Velcro and try to make it stick to the carpet better, or maybe a bungee cord/tie down/cargo net would help. If it's stuff rattling around ON the tray, try sticking a piece of felt or thin carpet to it(the tray) ...maybe that'll at least muffle the clunk.
BTW: Welcome to the club, and congrats on the new car!

My initial thought was velcro...strips of it to the top of the tray and bottom of the flat floor board part of the carpet section...at least the wouldn't be moving independent of each other. Then I thought..wait a damn minute...I just paid XXX for a car and it shouldn't be making this noise....
Oh well....
how about other suggestions...what I'm really curious about is how many others have this issue.
