Switchblade Key for Mazda 3

Unfortunately the Mazda 3 one of the only models that doesn't come with the sweet switchblade key ... I know you can buy blanks on ebay for the 6/rx8

Does anyone know if its possible to buy a blank and get the key AND remote to work for the 3 with one of those?

I would love to ditch the gigantic key and remote for one sleek little guy

Yes, it is possible to use the key blade from an MX-5 and the remote from a Mazda6 to build yourself a switchblade key. I've got one, and it works perfectly. More details here:

In continuing my research from originally posting this question, it seems that I can have a switchblade fob with a working key but NOT a working keyless entry

bearda, is that what you mean?

To further elaborate on my original question, I would like a switchblade replacement to my key + fob that works as both the key AND the wireless transmitter

What year is your Mazda3?

With '04-'06 you can put together a working flip-key WITH remote for about $80. For an '07 the key will work but getting a working remote requires you replace the keyless entry unit in your car, which gets pricey.

This is such a bummer.

Keys

You guys should take a look at the post on the mazda forums here:
http://www.mazdamp3.com/vbb225/showt...3646482&page=2

To highlight the article for you:
-'04-06 keys/remotes can be programmed for free by the user
-'07 remotes must be programmed by the dealer, however the key can still be programmed by the user.

There are walkthroughs for the 07's to get switchblade keys, and the 04-06 models (I own an 06) are alot easier to get made. PM me if you have any questions.
