Question Stub Antenna

Does anyone know if you can convert your standard Mazda3 antenna into a more sleek stub antenna. Like on the new Honda Accords? Im aware that the antenna can be unscrewed but is there something that can go over that, to where it will look like the car was designed for the stub antenna?

I used to have a stubby antenna on mine ... they are very common, I got one from www.carccessory.com

But I immediately switched mine out when I found this company making functional shark fin antennas ... they even paint it to match your car color

www.sharkfinantenna.com

Pics not of my car, just linked from the site

Do you mean that price is expensive? I think its well justified. If I was to get anything painted, it would cost me at least $50 to set up and get done anyway. The price includes paint to match my car.

Not to mention, this one comes with a functional antenna, and I'm sure the plastic had to be designed and made too.

In either case, I don't see any other product out there that is similar ... and the price isn't exorbitant.

I just read this post yesterday and today I saw a WRX with no less than five (maybe six) of these along the rear edge of the roof. It looked pretty stupid. This is one of those things that may seem cool right now, but when it catches on and apc comes out with it at every autozone/aap/o'reilly's, it will be rice.

I guess, the point is ... even though it may seem like a rice product, it functions better than the stubbies that a lot of people have, in terms of reception.

Therefore, having the added/inscreased functionality rids itself of the "rice" label

Fine fine, its just my own justification for buying it

I agree. Its awesome to have rather then the factory "whip" antenna. It just plain looks better in my opinion. period. Don't be jealous of our shark antennas from www.sharkfinantennas.com!

Hey M3s, you ended up getting one too? Cool!! What color do you have? Have you tried any of the touchless car washes yet? I'm gonna go try it in a few days ... hope nothing happens haha

What the WRX had that you saw was likely their new rear spoiler. It sits alop the roof and acts as a air controller, it is supposidly functional and aids in aerodynamics.

To everyone else, those antennas are definately neat and i feel look very classy as they are being placed on many new high end cars. Also, 55 bucks seems like a great price seeing as they are sold color matched. How is the reception with them?

My request is pending still, I'm getting the black mica one as it will of course match my vehicle. I liked black. Plus my windows are tinted so like wakeup said, it will look even more classy and high end. ...I go to the touchless wash all the time, Ill be sure to let you know how it goes with the stub after its installed.

Glad to report: I've been through a touchless carwash, and nothing happened. That thing is stuck on tight ... you can rock it back and forth and it wont come off without more force.

As for reception, noticeablely better than the 3" stubby I had ... I can pick up more channels with the shark fin than with the stubby and I dont have as much radio 'hiss' anymore.

Seriously, can't go wrong with it ... its so different, you dont see anyone else with one, and the paint matching was great.

M3s ... you haven't gotten yours yet? I got mine quicky, ordered and within 2 weeks I got it.

What I saw was definitely not the same sti spoiler on subaru's website. It looked exactly like five or six of those things stuck on the roof above the rear window.
