You know the only real reason I can think of NOT to get the CAI would be were you live. I do know that in the winters the cold cold air makes the car run bad some times. Well so I've heard. The Short Ram wont have that problem because of the engine heat. So if you live in the upper west area where it's snowing today I would go Short Ram. Just a thought!

Hey Guys,

Just went through the pain in the *** of trying to install the Dragon-R Ram Air. I'm not sure if it's for the 2004 mazda 3, but the entire ram air inlet pipe was built incorrectly. I'm not going to be able to post pictures until next week, because my computer at home is ******* up on me.

If you guys are thinking about buying the dragon air intake I sopke about above, don't. I'm going to wait until AEM or another big brand come out with a short ram for the '05 Mazda 3.

Basically, the MAF sensor wiring harness could not reach the maf sensor itself due to the fact that the dumbasses soddered the mounting point on the pipe in the wrong spot. (looking at the picture that they have on the instructions, even the pipe on the short ram on there had the MAF mounting bracket in the correct spot).

Not to mention that the directions covered no spots on how to mount the bracket that came with the unit itself. I was developing a plan on how to mount the short ram to the body of the car when I realized that I couldn't install it due to the wiring harness not reaching the MAF.

So I spent 2 hours taking out my stock air box, just to put it back in, which was a HUGE pain in the ***. I actually almost destroyed my stock air pipe in order to get out a fitting, but managed to get it out with some tools... I'm glad I didn't cut into it like I originally was planning on doing!

Anyway, that's what happened... I don't know if they sent me the wrong part, or if they're just inept enough to mount the bracket for the MAF sensor on the wrong side fo the pipe...

I'll post pictures as soon as I get it up on my ftp server.

Hey Broten? If you would have taken the time to READ the post, you would have realized that I wasn't the one who posted it.

Also, if you're pissed that you just bought the car, go bitch about it somewhere else... I don't want or need to waste my time reading your belligerent comments towards me or anyone else in this forum thread.

If swearing wasn't in your vocabulary I don't know if you could form a coherent sentence... wow.

Thanks for stopping by, gave me a good laugh.

Shows how little y'all know about cars. The Swift GTi was 1700 pounds, and had 100hp/83ftlbs torque. The Mazda 3 is almost 3000 lbs, and has 160hp. Do the calculating and see the power to weight ratio. The Swift is one hot little bastard.... absolutely amazing. That car accelerated so fiercely, that I'd be laughing with tears streaming down my cheeks. I'd purposely take the LONNNNG way to wherever I was going in order to enjoy the Switf GTi. The last car that made me do that was an SHO.
The Mazda 3? lol Gimme a break! lol It's a family car, or a sports car for a guy who's using Cialis. IF the 3 makes me laugh, it 's a derisive laugh!! lol I don't look forward to driving it at all. It sits in my garage. No worries...it's for sale and will soon be gone.
I apologize to you, BigBastardMazda. Your username was in close proximity to the message I was responding to, and thought you sent it. Still...whoever the spaced-out tool was who sent me that nasty message should have his bare *** kicked with a cold boot.
I'm 48, and have a pretty damned good idea what a car should do. I also have a 2003 Lexus 430, a 1979 Vette L-82 4-speed, that I've restored...by myself. Right now I'm getting her ready for a ZR1 engine swap. Am I qualified now?
Ya...I can swear, and I can form a sentence. Why is that hard to dig? I apologize for cussing the way I did, but I have difficulty dealing with stupidity......that reply to my entry got the best of me.
So...are y'all now gonna **** off on me for entering this message in the wrong spot, or go on and on about how you don't care what the hell else I drive, because this is a Mazda 3 forum?
Ya...I posted in the wrong place. I appreciate the----"Every new comer makes misstakes now and then, you don't have to leave. Just remimber that this forum isn't like the others. We respect peoples post MOST of the time."---That was very nice of you Hughes412.
That's the way things should be...civil.
Enjoy your forum, guys.

Oh come on, a Suzuki Swift? I don't think anybody over 5'5 and 100 pounds could fit normally in that car. A friend of mine used to drive that car that car. He looked liek he was driving a go-cart, with his knees reaching his shoulders when he drove it (he's really tall though). We felt like we were going to fly out of the car when he used to take curves at 60-80kms/hr.

Mazda 3 is a sleek, stylish, and classy car. No it's not a sports car. But if you tell the people I know who own Porshe's, Vette's and Mustang's that the Swift is a sports car, I think you'd get shot.

No offense of course.

The differences isn't big, .0588 hp/lbs for the swift compare to .0533 hp/lbs for the mazda. But here we are with the "BUTT-O-METER" claiming facts again, is there any real numbers? It's like people talking on how long their gas tank last in term of weeks, usually I say mine will last me a whole year if I leave it park in the driveway.

I must admit when I first got my mazda 3 sport I tought it was slow and my other car faster, a 93 turbo scoupe (115 hp / 123 ftlbs torque). Even my brother thought the mazda had nothing on the scoupe. But a couple of week ago with a g-meter I managed 15.78 s in the 1/4 miles and with my turbo the best run I ever did with it was 16.01 s and that playing with the waste gate. Of course the scoupe was harder to shift compared to the mazda. So which one is faster? For me it the mazda because of the numbers but the scoupe felt like it packed more of a punch, but I guess the mazda is more smooth. Next time you are in your mazda and stepping on it take a quick look at the speedometer you will problely be surprise.

Hey Hughes412....I can get some pics to you, no problem. The ZR1 I'm talking about is the 4-cam, 32 valve all-aluminum Mercury 350 cu V8 that was in the '89-95 ZR1s.
I know little about forums, so if you can start the thread for me, I can get into it.
HitmanHart...Ya, Suzuki Swift GTi 1.3! With less than 3 grand worth of mods, the Swift GTi can out-slolam the C5 Vette, out accelerate the LS-1 Camaro, and beat the Mazda 3 in all aspects so badly that if the 3 had an ***, it would crawl up it. I've seen it. So do some research. My Swift was more fun to drive than my Porsche 928. The Porsche I only had for two years...the Swift GTi I had 7 years. It's not a "sports car", it's a "hot hatch". I'm telling ya, it's a hot little bastard. It kicks some sports cars' asses...seriously too. How many sports cars can hold a Marshall 4x12 cabinet, head, rack and two guitars, and a passenger, and still go like hell? Most can go like hell, but none I've ever owned can fit all that gear and still be comfy, fast, and handle like it's not weighed down.
Anyway, enough of the Swift GTi....I don't wanna **** off the Mazda 3 guys any more than I already have.
Thing is, is when the saleswoman showed me the 3's engine specs, power figures, and the mileage, I thought it'd be a decent go-er. 42 mpg? Ya, if you never go more than 2000 rpm!
So lets start a new thread hughes412....if and when you can or do start the thread, by all means email me.

Hey orange3, you're absolutely right, dude. But how can you account for the fact that the Mazda 3 never threw me back into the seat when I stepped on it...and the Swift GTi did it...fiercely....happily...and on a regular basis? The acceleration figures of the two cars might be right, but the Swift GTi is so much more fun to drive, even as quirky as it is...than the Mazda 3 is. Even the Protege5 felt ballsier than the 3! sheesh! Plus...I could go for almost a week without putting gas in the Swift GTi (it was 94 octane), whereas I have to put gas in the Mazda 3 every freakin' day. I don't drive the 3 anywhere NEAR as aggressively as I drove the Swift GTi...and the 3s ,ileage is pitiful. It IS 89 octane, which lessens the pain somewhat. there's something wrong there.
Still...I might wait until Mazda gets up off its *** and designs some engine mod parts that'll bring the 3 up to speed.

Why would you want to get thrown back in your seat when you accelerate? If her in a ferrari, ok, but c'mon, if you're being thrown back like that driving a swift, that because of it's construction, more than anything else. I dunno, maybe it's me. It was fun when I was 18 or 20, but I prefer cars that are solid. It's all in the way it's constructed. Personally, I'd rather drive a Mercedes than a car like that. even driving the new Maxima (or Altima for thast matter). You're not thrown back in your seat, but you're flying nonetheless... big time. And you know you're driving a classy car, not a piece of ****.

I am wondering though is installing a CAI or a short air ram will void the warranty. Does anybody know?

Nevertheless, from the posts I've been reading, I gotta wonder if it's worth spending the monmey for what appears to be minimal gains - or gains that aren't really too significant.
