oil consumption

this is my first new car and i was wondering, during the 600 mile breakin period, does the engine tend to use a little oil until everything inside the engine seals up ? or do you think the dealer just didnt put enough in it ?

How much is a little.. did your oil light come on, or did you just notice it's a little low on the dipstick? I wouldn't be shocked if the dealer just didn't make sure it was full before delivery.

Never trust anyone else but yourself when it comes to your car, especially the dealership. Keep a close eye on your oil level (I check it every single time I fill up on gas) and don't ever let it get too low. Normally you wanna do an oil change every 3000 miles or so but with a brand new engine I'd recommend doing your first oil change at about a 1000. After that you should be alright with following the regular maintenance schedule, but don't romp on it yet.

the oil shows on the low mark, i checked it several times and is still the same, i called the dealer and they said to bring it in and they would change the oil so they could keep maintenance records on it to see if its burning oil or if they did not put enough in, i dont know what everyone runs theirs on , but mine better stay on full mark, it only has 384 miles on it. thankx for the help guys, i appreciate it and what exactly are you talking about romping on it ? i havnt had it up over 4800 rpms yet, are you talking about red line or extremely hard accelleration ? and do you think the 600 mile breakin period is enough before rompin on it.

redline or extreme acceleration, but really going into boost at all is stressful on a brand spankin new engine like that.

Until like 1500 miles or so just pretend like instead of a fun sporty car you bought a Honda Civic Ex.. or just drive pretending that there is a frail elderly woman in the trunk and play the 'don't bruise the hostage' game lol
