Leather?

I have an issue... has anyone who bought their Mazda 3 with leather included inspected the car yet? I just was cleaning my car out and I noticed that my so-called leather looks like vinyl crap. Advice? I didn't pay an extra $900 for vinyl.

I've got the leather. I like the feel, but the look leaves me wondering how bad it's going to be in a year.

Main complaint, the threads from the backing on the leather is shedding and coming through the holes in the leather. I'm going to ask the dealer about it when I take it in to get my autodown window switch replaced next week.

where exactly does it look like it's vinyl? Don't most car manufactures only use leather on the middle seat area and vinyl on all other areas?

Dealer reply about the threads coming through the holes, it's normal.

They tried to make me feel better about it by telling me the high line Acuras have the same problem.

They also claim it will eventually stop and to use a lint roller with tape on it to remove it.

Not exactly the answer I was looking for.

leather threads

I just picked my 3 up yesterday and the threads are coming through the holes in the leather as well. I hope it doesn't get much worse.

Mazda, along with a couple of other manuafcturers of vehicles in this price range, put leather only on seating surfaces, and vinyl everywhere else. If you look closely, you can probably see where the leater transitions into vinyl on your seat.
My wife had a 2001 fully leaded Tribute, and it was the same way, vinyl on the back of the seat and on the doors, and leather where your legs, back, and bottom touch.

Go with the cloth....

I don't really see the need for paying extra for leather anyways. The cloth seat in the 3 are great. I like how it isnt the fuzzy kind of cloth alot of cars have. Its kind of a smooth cloth. Plus I really like how you can get it with red or blue in it. In my opinion the cloth is sportier looking. Save the leather for when you can afford to buy the RX-8 (since the two toned leather is sweet).

It seems to be the same cheap leather in the RX8 too. It's just that model doesn't have the perforations.

By the way, the threads aren't getting any worse at this point. The ones I've pulled out haven't come back.

I personally like the leather because it doesn't stain like a cloth seat. It wasn't a very expensive option and I'm finding the seats to be very comfortable.

Unfortunately I don't think I'll be able to say definitely get it or not until I've had it for 6 months or a year. I'm still happy at this point, but skeptical.
