Indicator lights flicker

Indicator lights flicker
Hi, I'm new to the forum and honestly not the most savy
car guy. I have a 2009 mazda 3(2.0). A year ago I had to
have the transmission replaced. I went to a reputable shop and had a brand new transmission put in with a full warranty on the transmission and labor. In the past few weeks I've had some issues. When driving, the indicator lights on my dash telling me what gear I'm in start to flicker (the D and whichever gear I'm in, usually its 4.) When they do flicker the car slows, like its confused about which gear its in, then they come back on and it speeds up again. If I wiggle the shifter I can induce the flickering in the lights. A few ppl have said it sounds like I need a new shifter cable. Anyone experience this or know what's going on? I appreciate any help greatly

Check the transmission fluid level ASAP then get it scanned for fault codes; the trans control module is trying to tell you something is wrong with the transmission an dit might be as simple as low fluid level.
