Ok so I had done some Auto X befor but that was in my buddies modified honda s2000 I kno its not the best car to compare to my 3 but it will have to do. In the past few months I have put up some threads asking if I should slap on some after maket tires on my 3 (to replace my stock steelies). And after a few people said to me steelies would do great, I figured what the hell the tires are under warenty for the next two months why not give it a try. So last sunday I showed up to the first Auto X session in overcast Cleveland Ohio. I pulled into the vast parking lot at the local community college to find that I was one of four non-german cars running that day. I was up against a field of 12 different porsches, after I finished drooling over the black 911 turbo that I parked next two I walked up to the other three guys there that like me couldnt drop 80 grand on a car. It was two highly modified civics and one brand spanking new 350z. We talked and drooled over all that was holy about the german automaker and soon began to feel I little demoralized as the finial Porsche pulled into the lot, but we werent the only ones that felt that way. The car that had pulled up was a HIGHLY HIGHLY modified Porsche GT2. We all felt extreamly small after that. But anyway as the day began we took our two parade laps around the course. Mind you by then all thought that I was riding on steelies went to the back of my mind. So after sitting in line and watching the Porches turn 45 44 seconds flat it was the 350z turn and he turned a 49 and he pushed hard. So by then I knew I was shooting for upper to mid 50s. As I took the car out on the track I found that my car liked to make and EXTREAMLY LOUD and annoying tire screeching sound, and I kno I kno thats exspected, but this was more than a good porshion of the time I was on the course. After 3 runs I was starting to get a little concerned. My *** was going every where and I was begining to worry about the back tires. But the tires made it through the day, no blows to my surprise. As i got of the car to look at the damage I exspected the worse extream feathering and sidewall bulge. But to my surprise the Back tires were in extreamly good condition, and what surprised me the most, the only signs that I was pushing the car were on the front tries, and that was minimal feathering. So after my day of watching dream cars going round the track and my ok performace I walked away with some important knowlege, if your going to Autocross a 3 with steelies UPGRADE THE SUSPENSSION!!! So I am going to shut up now I have probebly board all of you to death, but theirs my update. Oh by the way the fastest time I could squeeze, and I mean sqeeze was a 56.999.
