2009 Mazda 3 GT ignition switch problem

Like others who have posted I find sometimes that the car thinks the key is in the switch when it has been removed, preventing the car from being locked and sounding the key-in chime.
Now I also find that the radio continues to play for a few seconds when the key is removed.
Is the ignition switch covered by warranty? Even the extended Mazda warranty?
Also, my Mazda dealer has a habit of trying to prevent me requesting warranty service by threatening to charge me if no fault found (or they cannot determine what the problem is); how do I get around that type of customer service?

Guess what I found? I had a rechargeable flashlight plugged into the 12V outlet in the centre armrest. I thought this outlet was off when the ignition is off, but no. With the flashlight plugged in, when the ignition is turned off and the key removed the radio will play for a few seconds, and afterwards the backlight for the main information display stays on.
