Mazda 3 Steering Pump (Back order parts from Japan)

FYI,

Mazda is having major issues with the Power steering pumps on recent Mazda 3's.
Customers have been waiting (without their cars) for replacement parts from Japan for over 1 month and Mazda seems to have no confirmed dates of when the parts will be in the country (Canada).

After some research I found many posts on the same issue (Power steering pump). It seems that Mazda is going to declare a recall in the near future, but they first need to have the parts made in JAPAN, then they'll be shipped by boat to North America. This can take months considering that the pump in the 2010 model is not compatible.

At the moment, Mazda has me driving a Yaris without any features (no power windows, doors, keyles entry...) and has no date for when i can get my car back.
I miss my leather seats, power options and sunroof. With no possible compensation from Mazda, I have no choice but to drive this $200/month sh*t box while i continue to make my $400/month payments.

Country: Canada
Model: 2007 Mazda 3

Yeah. Check other similar threads on this site, and especially on the TorontoMazda3.ca site. Looks like an epidemic.

My 2007 2.3L has been in the shop now for 25 days. The dealer tells me I'm next, but parts are trickling in. He expects mid-June, though I hope he's giving me the worst-case scenario so I can be happy when it happens sooner.

All cars will have problems. The real test is in how the manufacturer and dealer network respond. I'm sure nobody wants to burn the goodwill of loyal customers, so hang in there.

Good luck to you!

Hey, you won't believe it! The dealer just called, and my 3 is ready to go! The parts came in this morning!

To all, there's light at the end of the tunnel.

Sorry, dstarr. They're coming in one set at a time, it seems.

Hang in there!

May I ask if you are referring to the 2010 electric p/s pump? Was it whining before it went out?
Am just curious ... just got a 2010 3 and its p/s pump whine is noticeable ...

Nevermind ... silly me ... missed a few details in the post.
Hope your 07 gets back on the road soon!
And you're right -- the Yaris is a pretty bad piece of metal! 8-)
