The sad part is...that's all the cabbage the little car could muster. I didn't lift on the entire hill preceding the jump. New engine is on the shop floor. Look for a more tenacious Protege for 2003.

In their defense, Hyundai and Subaru drivers had too much on the line, since the manufacturers championship was to be decided on that race, so they couldn't risk doing damage to the car by catching a big air. The drivers told me beforehand that they were going to take it easy over the jump, so I didn't bother going to the jump to take photos

As the head of Prodrive USA said to me, "we can build an open class car that will blow a WRCar away."

If the Open class cars are really faster, is it just a matter of camera work that makes it seem so slow? It has to be more than that because half the time when they show an in-car shot of the SCCA guys they're arguing about who did what wrong two corners ago, not concentrating on driving the course ahead.

No I certainly haven't .. being from Canada and all ... and I haven't really gotten involved enough with rallying in Ontario to know anyone who would have one.

I am flying to Toronto for the Rally of the Tall Pines in Bancroft on Thursday. I will be there doing photography for Subaru Canada. You should try and go. Here is the website: http://www.tallpinesrally.com/
The Canadian events don't get as many of the top cars as the US but Tom McGeer in the Subaru WRX will likely impress you as well as a few other drivers.

Now that I've figured out how to get the RePlay (like Tivo) to record Pro Rally, I shouldn't miss any more.
