AutoX is 90% driver and 10% car. So if you can drive well, the car is not as important. Of course to be highly competitive, you've got to have a car to match the driving skills.

Protege's run in H-Stock class in stock form, but with more mods you can move up to STS, STX or Street Mod. But be prepared to spend big bucks to be competitive in Street Mod. STS is a good balance, as it allows most of the common bolt on mods that we do anyway.

I can't speak for the rest, but for myself, i fair pretty well, as a driver and my car is getting very close to the STS mod limits, so it should be all up to me as a driver to make it work.

Jesse, placed very well at the Florida Nationals, as did a few other BG chassis drivers, a 1st/2nd/5th finish is this past weekends San Diego Nationals.

IMHO a G3 Pro could make a pretty mean FSP car with some creative parts swapping. However, a full-out Street Prepared car will be a little too hardcore to drive on the street. Don't let the "Street" in the name fool you

I am planning to run in HS class with Washington DC SCCA, as I'm hooked to autox just after my very first practice run last Sunday, and another practice event coming up this Saturday.

I have a 2000 ES, if I run in HS, does that mean I have to remove the mp3 strut bar on my car in order to pass tech inspection?

I think I'll run the practice this Saturday with the strut bar off to see how different the car turns...

Probably not much difference. Especially compared to what good struts will do for the car.

SCCA Solo II class?

ZoomZoomH

I plan on running in STS this Saturday at the D.C. event. I have tons of suspension work done but I have 1.6L and you have 1.8L so we should be competitive against each other. It's all about the fun factor any-who. When I complete a few more mods I'm working on I'll probably be in the STX class. ie roll bar, willwood four piston brakes, better control arms, and adj. frunt strut mounts.

PseudoRealityX and EricF,

If I turbo charge my 1.6L will that throw me into the FSP class or can I stay STX? This SCCA solo II rules/classification stuff can get confusing. Am I in HS no, STS maybe or STX could be, then there is FSP and SM hmm? Since I installed solid motor mounts am I in the STX class any-who?

Thanks

I just reserved my spot in the morning session for this Saturday's practice autox at FedEx Field. Hopefully they won't be jackasses and put me in the first running group like they did Sunday

Here's a chart describing different levels of preparation for each class:

http://solo.wdcr-scca.org/cchart.htm

With all the suspension mods allowed in STS, looks like I'll be running HS with stock tires, off goes the strut bar!

Hmm more confusion

I printed out the descriptions of the different classes and all the Fast Track Solo articles for the last six months and your right on the motor mounts. As far as my seats they are recline-able, have padded bottoms, and slide forward and back. Hmm. Looks like I'm going to have to get a set of 15" TE37 with some V700's. I wonder if I use spacers if I can run 215's? Hell might as well order the lexaten windows. And if the 99-00 CF hood deal doesn't go though get a fiberglass one made along with a fiberglass trunk lid.
Stop the madness!!

I plan on installing a limited slip along with a stage 1 clutch and light weight flywheel after the Turbo install in the fall. If all that stuff becomes available for 1.6L this summer. If not I'll do some sort of swap next winter probably a 1.8L with cams and pistons, flywheel, LSD etc. since there are more and more 1.8L becoming available. Last I checked www.car-parts.com I could get a 99 or 00 1.8L with loom, mounts, manual tranny, axles, and ecu for $2k from local salvage yards.
As far as power to the wheels, the solid polyurethane front motor mount made a HUGE difference. I posted a thread with description and pics of what I did as far as the motor mounts go. http://www.protegeclub.com/forum/sho...t=motor+mounts
I have two more of the poly bushings for use as motor mounts if any one is interested in try it out.

Amen to that!! Mine was a daily driver for awhile but it was just too much. Too loud, too hot, too stiff, too noticable to the police.

And I agree about the LSD, You can't imagine the difference.
