Why no 2-door?

I really wouldn't mind to see mazda have a coupe version of the Protege. I really haven't heard anyone else mention something like this, but I bet it would/could be a winner for Mazda.

Think about it... The protege is probably the best looking compact car out there, but it's only available as a 4-door. Honda civics were/are so popular because of their good looks (the older model ones, the new ones are U G L Y imo), they are economical, and very reliable. Mazda has all this, and yet protege's are just NOW getting some recognition from the aftermarket community.

I doubt it will ever happen in the future, but it would have been nice for mazda to have built a coupe version of their already beautiful car.

I think it's safe to say that 80%+ of the people on this bought their cars not as family cars. If you would have had a choice would you have gotten a coupe or sedan? Don't get me wrong, I love the practicality of the 4 doors (my next car will be one), but at this young age, I'd definately go for the coupe.

Oh well, just something to dream about.

Thats a great thought. I think the coupe would look really nice, especially on the 2nd gen Pro. I think that way beause it is the only round shapen generation of all. Do not get me wrong, 3rd gen has awesome looks, far better than 2nd gen, but the over all lines of 2nd gen are more round. I will try to edit some pictures of 2nd and 3rd gen, and see what I can do. Coupe Pro, here we come!

3rd gen Pro Coupe

Mazdaspeed Protege Coupe

I tried to get to look good, but it would require me to mess with the rear pillar.

It really does. That is why I said earlier that 2nd gen has a better body for a coupe. Unless, on 3rd gen, the rear window can be slanted down a little, or the rear pillar can be made wider. I will mess around all might long today. Come back, tomorrow, there will be lots of concepts!

3-dr hatchbacks were made of the 2nd and 3rd Generation Protege's. However, they were never imported here. Too bad...

Here's a pic from Protegetech.com:

I am a big hatchback fan, and I do like those. Howcome they never sent em over here? I am sure they would have easily outsold the Civic hatchback.

I sure wish they would bring them over. Perhaps Mazda is still reeling from their last 3-dr hatch... the MX-3. Although, the MX-3 GS with it's 1.8L V6 was a hot little car. That was built on the Protege's platform and used many Protege parts. Of course, it would have been more interesting if they would have put that V6 in the Protege... Corksport has swapped out the 1.8L V6 with a 2.5L V6... Now that's cool!

My bud has a MX-3 GS, they indeed are hot little cars. At first sight I thought for sure it was a 4 cylinder, til he popped the hood, and a V6 was sitting there The aftermarket isn't too big for his car though, but overall its a pretty neat little car.

The red hatch looks really good. It kinda looks like WRC car with big rear fenders. I always wondered what looks like from the back. I only saw the front pics of the hatch. But this thread is about 2-door sedans, known as coupes. So if you got any suggestion, shoot them out!
