Thoughts on Mazda Rev It Up competition

with all the events on the west coast being over....
I must say the event wasn't as good as I expected..
you only get two, one lap sessions around the competition course.
and all the other racing clinics were kinda stupid...and really long lines too...
and one thing is they don't change the tires! near the afternoon all the tires are worn out so badly!

best part is they have the msp there for test driving...

did anyone else thing it sucked?
and how about posting up some scores if you went...
I got 524... first time ever racing... pretty crap....

I just read in the latest Road&Track that all of the events have the same course. Is that really true? I mean, it is an advantage for the folks on the East coast.

you can still show up and check out their displays and whatnot, you just can't participate in the competition.

not sure if they'll let you test drive their other production cars...

the mazda 6 S (and the mazdaspeed protege) is avaliable for test drive in the production line model...
you aren't supposed to push the car to the limit on that course because if you are competiting they will put an X on your car and you can't compete. but I guess if you are just a visitor theres nothing to loose... I pushed the cars around that track hard but I didn't get X ed..... as long as you don't drift or do something stupid I think you are ok.

a tip for people who are going to race in the competition..... the car has tiptronic .... so if you want you could just leave it in 2nd gear for the whole course so you don't have to wait for downshift in the auto mode.

I screeched in the Mazdaspeed twice (one on launch, once in a corner) and I didn't get a black X either. I didn't really enjoy it though, I can think of a lot of other things that didn't require waiting in line for 30 minutes between class to do with $40. I'll just wait and pay to go to Skip Barber or something and really learn how to race rather than having a guy maybe watching me and give me some canned advice before my next run. My wife and I saw how long the line was for the comp run (about twice as long as any of the event runs) and said screw it and left early. So next time it comes around I'll just show up and play with some cars and go home. RX-8 looked awesome though. Can't wait till they are available for a test drive.
