Question Eibach pro-kit vs. Mazda competition lowering springs

Mazda USA and my Mazda dealer told me that the installation of the Eibach pro-kit springs on my new P5 can void the warranty for any directly effected suspension part if that part fails. They recommended the Mazda competition lowering springs instead.

First, has anyone had a suspension problem during the warranty period with or without aftermarket springs? I just can't see the Eibach's causing any related problems down the road and I've never had a car with any kind of suspension problems within 50,000 miles (tie rods showing wear at 80,000's about all).

Second, any one know anything about the Mazda springs for the P5? Mazda is sending me their competition parts catalog, but I don't have a lot of patience and the catalog is not available to view at their website. Thanks.

How much do the Mazda competion springs lower the car? I'm curious about this option because I plan on lowering mine too in the future. And also, is the price approximately the same?

wow...i'd like to find that out too. i'd also like to know how much the mazda springs cost. i've found the eibach pro-kit to run around $200-$225.

Also, I think the biggest warrenty problems you'll run into is after you install the springs yourself. As fun (and satisfying) as that is, you run the risk of voiding a lot more than just the suspention.

Thumbs down Eibach's vs. Mazda competition springs

Mazda e-mailed me back (www.madzaformance.com is the competition parts address). The springs are the ones on the Mazdaspeed Protege and lower the car .75". They warranty them for 12,000 or 12 months installed by a dealer. Mitch @ www.protege5online.com (good site) says people have had problems with the car sagging to one side with the Madza. He went on to say that Mazda Competition (not the competition parts catalog at the dealers) uses Eibach's exclusively in their aftermarket mods. Interesting. I'm sticking with Eibach's. My trusted mechanic will install these since he has done several. I'd botch it for sure! lol

Yea I'm definitely looking into springs for mine too...and I've found that dealerships don't know what the hell they're talking about so I'll go w/ Eibachs too. How much does the average mechanic charge for installation?

The place I've taken my previous car to for 4 years says it takes about one hour per wheel, so almost $300. But, check this, the Mazda service manager said it would take 1.5 hours per wheel and almost $550 for the Mazda springs (which sell online for $209 and $300 at a dealership). I don't think the $300 is bad for a quality install- this place's work is always good.
I'll let everyone know how it rides, handles and looks after the install (a few weeks away)!

I have seen mazdspeed springs for sale (expensive btw) that say they drop the car 1" all around. I guess that means they either count in a quarter inch of sag or they are different than the ones the dealer was talking about.

I prefer Eibach and TEIN as spring manufacturers.

If you want a big performance increase and money isnt really an issue I would go with the ground control coil over system as they use eibach springs in their kits.

For just the springs Eiback Pro-Kits are a 1.4" front drop and 1.2" in the back. The reason for the difference is in stock form the p5 sits higher in the front end.

The TEIN S-tech springs are a 1.8 and 1.4 I think which will give you a little more agressive drop.

Both companies are phenominal at the suspension products they put out, TEIN is very very well regarded in the JDM and Eibacj everywhere. Just depedns on how low you want to put your car, I think the eibach is the lowest I would do as I dont want it rubbing constantly since it is my daily driver.

Also I know the Eibach pro-kit and sportline(2" drop all around) kits are on ebay frequently for around 165 shipped. The Tein Stech are on ebay once in a while for around 145-155 shipped.

Ill see if I can find some links.

I would have to suggest the Eibach's. The quality of teh springs is excellent. I had my springs professionally installed. It was a little under $300 for about 4-5 hours of work. They did a great job and I haven't had any problems yet.

Body kit installation doesn't come cheap either. Expect around $300 for a quality paint job. It costs me $300 to get a dry fit because I wasn't comfortable drilling all the mounting holes. I did the final installation though myself. If you can't do any of the install expect around $1k for install and paint costs.

btw the drive from AZ to WA in my p5 with only 1k miles on it (had 10 when i got it) went perfect, not a single little thing to complain about the car on that long road trip.

And Im going back down the 23rd-25th.

Exclamation springs/warranty

Lowering springs will not void your warranty as a matter of fact any modification to your car will not void your warranty! If your engine fails or your suspension fails then it is a manufacture defect. If the modification part fails causing damage to your car then the company selling the mod that is to blame. I have a set of Eibach spring that I will sell you make me an offer. They cost me about 100.00 to get installed at a local tire store. Plus if you or anyone else wants more info on warranties and the federal Magnuson-Moss Act let me know at I will email you the info I have.
