The write up says, "...170hp solidly to the ground..." Can we take this to mean 170whp or 170bhp at the crank?

Also, +40hp sounds about right for 5psi of boost, but i agree with Jesse that Mazda is under rating it.

Besides, it's going to happen, they finally will send over a turbo Protege, so the potential for tuners will be set, i would say 200+ will be easily attainable with very minor tweeks....i'd still buy this over a Neon in a heartbeat!!! plus even better suspension than the MP3!!!

This is truly a sacred time for us, let's come together and rejoice on this most joyus<sp> occasion. History Man!!! isn't it cool

Wil, report to confession immediately for desacrasion<sp> of the sacred temple.

Guys... The EVO 7 is coming in full jspec format. Per what I read it will/has over 300 hp, however due to what ever the hp law are in Japan Mitsu only claims 276 hp. I also read that the EVO and STI are probably going for slightly over 30,000.

Arrow WRX and EVO

Both will come to the US and both will come with an estimated 250 bhp. Mitsu is working on the front intercooler so it can pass the 5 mph crash test. Estimated prices are WRX $30,000 and EVO $34,000. As per Car and Driver.

wait a minute here

I am a little scared now. I bought my P5 as a daily driver. I wanted two things rated in this order

1) reliability

2) some sense of style for a reasonable price

Now all over this board I here that Mazda makes a crappy tranny and the engine sucks. Is this in reliability or is it an issue with you gearheads out there (no disrespect intended)

I live in the Napa Valley which means that Even if I wanted to I can't go over 45 miles an hour (too many tourists and no place to pass) ARRGH

BTW I have to laught at the guys who rent/own ferrarris up here and then can't get them out of 2nd gear due to the blue hair in the rented buick century in front of them (Its kinda funny)

Anyway. Did I **** up buying a mazda. I chose the P5 because
a) Its a great daily ride
b) Fuel economy is great
c) Its not a Honda
d) all the publications I could get my hands on said it was a good ride

Keep in mind I just FINALLY sold my POS Dodge Intrepid (and some of yoiu want to buy the neon R/T, that sound was me laughing HAHAHAHAHA) See my rant on Epinions.com

So tell me am I gonna enjoy this car as much as I have the last three months for many months to come or is it going to end up in the garage waiting for me to earn and extra thou' like my intrepid?

Be honest and thanks for listening in advance.

BTW I know this may be a little off topic but this thread seemed to be wandering a bit anyway

No, don't worry, your car is fine. I think that they're talking about putting on a turbo and increasing pressure to produce a lot of power. In any case, I've had my car for more then a year and never had not even a minor problem. You're fine

It better be less than $20,000! Why would I buy this front wheel drive underpowered car that has little tuning potential? Subaru or Mitsubishi will get my business next year with either the STI or the EVO for about $4000 more. What will that buy? 6 speed, AWD, Brembo brakes,260+ horsepower,8000 redline, upgraded motor with VVT and bigger turbocharger with a better intercooler and water sprayer with the STI. Evo 7 may be packing even more grunt. The Dodge Neon SR-T is the Mazdaspeed Protege's competition. Lets see, under $20,000, over 200 horsepower, 148 mph top speed(claimed) upgraded suspension and brakes, front mount intercooler and 2.4 liters of displacement. Yes its ugly, yes the interior is hideous, yes I am dubious about the build quality and reliabilty of a Neon. I was hoping for a little more out of this Mazdaspeed Protege, not just a MP3 with a Callaway T-25 turbo kit slapped on it. Hopefully Mazda will develop some more exciting products in the future in Japan and import them here( Mazda 6 AWD, twin turbo). The current P5 is available right now in Japan with AWD and a 170 hp N/A motor? I was hoping that Mazda would turbocharge the new 2.3 liter motor and strengthen it for that application. My BPT motor from 1990 is more sophisticated and durable then the current offerings from Mazda. I will definately test drive a Protege when its released, and I wouldn't be surprised if we develop some go fast goodies for it. I hope its at least a good drive.

I think your numbers might be off on the pricing. you seam to think that EVOVII will be 29K, no closer to 35K same ball park for the STI. The SR-T 205hp, 21K.
