Mazdaspeed has been in Japan for a long time now, they have made aftermarket parts for all Mazdas for awhile. That is a picture from the Mazdaspeed catalog, not the same "Mazdaspeed" that Mazda NA is making with the Protege, the soon-to-be-done 6, etc...

Where is everyone getting the information that Calloway has anything to do with the MS Proteges?

Well the MS Protege's turbo was developed and produced by Calloway. Look up specs anywhere on the MS Protege and you'll see the name besides the turbo......

Callaway was part of them, but they are not designed or made by Callaway.

What are you talking about?

Calloway did the development of the turbo system on the Mazdaspeed Protege. If it weren't for Calloway, there wouldn't be the turbo system that is on the car.

Calloway did all of the development for that car's turbo, plain and simple. To include the engine management. Calloway, however, is not a part of Mazda, nor have they ever been. Read this article from Calloway's website regarding the partnership between the two entities about the Mazdaspeed Protege.

Which, by the way, is rather interesting considering they are using the stock Protege fuel pump and larger injectors for the fuel. Nothing else was done to the fuel system.

This is interesting when you look at the BEGI/FM Protege kit, which in intial testing thought the Protege might need an in-line auxilary fuel pump to meet the fuel needs of the turbo. However, the AFPR is all that was needed so far.

Ya know, it's so funny to see pics of these minivans like this, but it's really sad to see more in person...

I see some ghetto'd out crap every now and then, but this morning I saw a new style Dodge Caravan with Altezzas!

[edit]I just noticed that you have a Maxima, I'm jealous! I wanted to get one but my insurance would be way too much. I used to hang out on maxima.org a lot, I rarely go back anymore Are there any new turbo'd Maxima's besides Nigels? That things a beast![/edit]

haha, that's cool. I used to own a 99 Green Protege LX and that's why I have an sn over here. I hadn't been back in a while so I thought I'd check out what was going on.

That's interesting about the insurance. When I got this car I got it for a couple reasons. Faster (obvious, but the MSP would most likely beat me), bigger (I like big cars), my car payment went down $50 a month, and my insurance went down $40 a month. The insurance lady was really glad that I chose a Maxima because they are high rated vehicles safety wise and usually get great insurance rates. Check out your rates again. You might be surprised.

Do the MSP and FM kit run the same amount of boost? That could explain the need for the fuel pump. Also, fuel needs can be reduced (somewhat) with proper ignition timing, which the MSP has. FM could probably use a stand alone and not need another fuel pump, but cost is definitely the issue here.

Geez, I didnt mean to offend anyone. sorry!

Its just that I work at a Mazda dealership and Ive spoken to many people from Mazda Canada in Toronto, and I have not yet heard the name Calloway mentioned once.
I have read in Car and Driver that Mazda enlisted the help of Calloway to create the turbo,
but we at Mazda are under the impression that the Turbo is actually assembled by Garret, and warrantied by Mazda.
It is carried in the same 5 year 100k Warranty as the powertrain.
I've been told by my Dealer Principal that the only reason the car is not in dealerships yet, is because assembly is not yet finished.

If anyone has concrete info that conflicts with this information, let me know so I can look into it. Im not by any means stubborn or hard headed, Its just that I have to go by the info given to me by Mazda Canada.
Certain magazines and websites dont always carry up to date information.

Okay, so the Garett part is the size of the turbo. Calloway really picked the Garett T25 size which is a pretty small turbo that will spool up quickly and you will get the power earlier in the revs.

Hope that helps
