Mazdaspeed (NOT protege) question

I read that the Mazdaspeed is going to do a version of the 6 and the miata as well. Does anyone know what will be in store for the miata? A factory turbocharger on that bad boy would be awesome. They could do a very, very good job with that car.

A supercharged 6 would be hella awesome too. Supercharged would be more likely than a turbo on the 6, BTW so that's why I said that.

The "Mazdaspeed" MX-5 for 2003 will be a stripper version with no extra gadgets. It will be track ready for the autocross fans. this seems to be the consensus amongst people I know.

There is a Club Sport Miata for 2003, but no Mazdaspeed. The Mazdaspeed Miata will have to be more than just a stripped-down Miata. It will most likely have more power, a more high-performance wheel/tire package and a stiffer suspension.

Here's a description of the Club Sport:
Club Sport Package - Suspension Package option plus special factory-tuned suspension; DELETED audio, a/c, power steering and Windblocker; available as a hardtop without the soft top or soft top only; special order only, see dealer.

I think we'll see that when we see the Aerostar SVT and Odessy Type R
I wouldn't mind a blown windstar... just put the lightnings engine in, that would be the bomb... oh yea, and awd

My friend had NOS in his Windstar before he wrecked it. (He is an extremely crazy driver too)

From all available info, it's a little too early for too much speculation on a Mazdaspeed Miata.

We were told at the Mazdaspeed rollout that there will be the Protege 1st, then the 6, then the RX-8, then (maybe) the Miata.

A lot of it probably has to do with how well the MS 'tege sells, and how much brand recognition Mazda can squeeze from the Mazdaspeed nomenclature.

Australia/New Zealand has typically been a good "test" market for Mazda, though. And given the fact that the SP Miata is available there, it's not outside the realm of possibility that we will see a turbo Miata here. Just probably not this year.

The Miata Club Sport does not carry the Mazdaspeed name.

A couple of weeks ago , I was up in Irvine at this thing that Mazda arranged. I was talking with a rep, and he did say there would be a Mazdaspeed edition to all of thier models, in the future.

I heard that Mazda wasn't on good speaking terms with both Calloway and the company in Australia for turbos and the Miata right now...

So the Mazdaspeed Miata might not come until after the redesign.

But, that's just what I have heard.

Really?

I have no idea what Mazda's relationship is with Prodrive, but the Aussie SP (i.e., factory turbo) has done really well over there.

As for Calloway, Mazda has tons of info and praise for the company in the Mazdaspeed literature. Where did you hear that Mazda and Calloway had a "falling out"?

On another note, it's possible we will get a Mazdaspeed Miata on the current NB platform, if Mazda chooses to extend the life cycle a few more years. It may be a turbo, or it could be closer in form to the MPS showcased at last year's Tokyo Auto Show (i.e., a hot naturally-aspirated 4-banger).

In any case, the Miata will probably be the last of the cars slated for Mazdaspeed re-work. Don't expect to see a Mazdaspeed Miata until after '04.

Apparently the States get there info faster than we do.
In Canada, there is no talk at all about a Mazdaspeed 6.
Just a hatchback and wagon model in the future.
The Mazdaspeed MX-5 is supposed to be called the MPS Roadster.
And there is talk of a Mazdaspeed P5.
We are the first ones to get solid info, if anything comes up Ill post it!

You must not live anywhere near Dallas, TX. That crap is ALL OVER THE PLACE!!! I've seen dropped minivans with 17" Chrome rims, blue lights and some really gay excuse for a wing on the top. Plus some put racing stickers on the things and "Type R" windshield wipers on them....

It's so gross
