Mazda 6 in the flesh.....

Mazda 6 in the flesh.....
....and I was very dissappointed. What is it about the photographs that car manufacturers use now a days that make the car look bad *** in the ads, but then like *** in person. I had this same problem with the Matrix. I thought it was sweet until I saw the thing in person and which point I was like: "Eww"
Same thing with the Mazda 6. I was really excited about this car and my girl wants a sedan so I had been angling her towards the 6, but after seeing one yesterday.....<sigh>
I don't know, maybe I just didn't get a really good look at it. I'll have to head over to the dealership and take a look.

Well according to what's being saud, you're the minority:
"Most impressive is the Mazda6's steering, which feels as if it took a few lessons at the Miata finishing school."
-Automobile Magazine, 7/02
"Brakes are superb, with ABS and Electronic Brakeforce Distribution."
-Road & Track, 7/02
"the most shocking of all is the handling - it's positively entertaining."
-CAR magazine
"A true standout feature in the Mazda6 is the steering and handling."
-Autoweek, 4/22/02
"True enough, the Mazda6 looks athletic. The stance is aggressive, the proportions dynamic and silhouette tense."
-Car and Driver, 6/02
"...the exteriordesign displays more agression than the benign faces of the Camry and Accord."
-Automobile Magazine, 7/02
"The black, textured dash material looks and feels like it came out of a BMW."
-Car and Driver, 6/02
"Mazda has created a more balanced look than Nissan did with Altima, and it's more exciting than the 2002 Camry and 2003 Accord."
-Edmunds.com
"With a sports-tuned suspension, svelte-styling, optional 220-horsepower V-6, and yes, room for five, the Mazda6 should be the perfect antidote for you Accord-inspired doldrums."
-Popular Science, 2002
"Overall the Mazda6 driving experience is more European than Japanese, easily outshining a Honda Accord through twisty hairpins and long sweepers. Ditto when compared to a Euro-spec Volkswagon Passat"
-Edmunds.com
"To drive the 6 is to know the 6"

Mazda 6 looks very impressive on pictures, but at Toronto Autoshow it wasn't impressive at all-nothing special compared to Accord or Altima.
On all promo pics it has 17" and sport bumpers, it will look sad with 15" with wheelcovers and no sideskirt or bumper extensions.
But that's easy to fix-get some 18" and lower it and it will look excellent.
Don't believe to journalists, I've read that "Mr Deeds" is the "funniest movie of the year"...

Mazda6 is Awesome in person!!
I have seen and driven all 4 models of the Mazda6 that will be sold in Canada. The car has no competition in its price range period!!
Its one of the best looking cars to come down the pipe in any price range. The 6 doesn't compare to the Accord or Altima? The Accord's styling is suited to only senior citizens. The Altima looks ok on the exterior, but the interior is very cheap and plastic.
By the way the 6 won't come with 15" wheels, 16's on the base model and 17's on the other 3.
The handling on this car definately lives up to the hype. It has no competion in handling in its class.(I drove the Accord, Altima, and Camry as well). 1/4 mile performance was about equal with the Accord, the Altima was slightly quicker, the Camry didn't match the others in any category. Both Nissan and Honda have designed great motors, but the rest of the cars don't stand up.

All right, before I get lyched by the mob here. I didn't say anything about the cars performance, I was merely stating my observation about its appearance and wanted to see if anybody else got the same impression, which apparently they did not. No biggy, that was just my opinion, and Im entitled to it. I also said that I'd like to go to the dealership and see one in person as I suspect the one I saw was the base model.
As far as being competitive, I think that 245hp and 246ft/lbs makes up for the handling in the Altima.....
As far as me being different, we must all be to some extent, cause I am the only person I know that likes the way my P5 looks.....the crowd I run with refers to it as the "Mommy Wagon".
