Which Turbo?
#16
TP5, i'm real serious about a turbo for my p5. i've got the cash so that's not a problem...i've got to tell you, the hiboost looks real good to me! i wasn't real sure about spoolin, although terry has been great, and now with the back order issus??? i was leaning towards the flying miata, but i've got an auto and their having issues with auto trannies. hiboost is available in 3 weeks and can handle the auto issue and it's the complete kit!!...so i'm like real tempted, but i don't want to be the "test" case...of course if hiboost wants to cut me a deal (ha, ha)....anyway. how far away are your from making the leap??what are your concerns at this point? the warrenty and insurance don't concern me to much...thanks, joe!

I assume TP5 = YP5...lol
I wouldn't be too worried about the "test" vechicle...I truely believe that the kit is quite sound and very complete. The fact that they have the first ECU systems speaks volumes in my opinion. Moreover, if there are any changes to the setup, I'm sure that by having a programable ECU, changes can be easily made.
As for me...I have been battling this issue for nerely 8 months. I have done my research and understand all the pros and cons. The thing that is holding me back is how this will effect my insurance rates.
Ontario Canada is facing a crack down on aftermarket scene as a result of "street racing". So insurance companies are becoming really tough on modified cars. I'm 28, semi-good record and my car is not yet fully paid off.
I have decided (not 100%) to forgo the turbo system this season and re-visit the idea next summer. This summer I will work on more cosemetics and my audio system...things that won't get me into trouble with my insurance. Many of you can understand that I am hurting so bad...because I trully want a car that "goes" and not just "shows".

Completely understand about the insurance situation. So many companies have moved out of Jeresy, which means fewer companies to go around, which means price goes up. PLUS, I'm 18, and it'll be a while till I get a decent insurance cut. The regular insurance on a P5 isn't bad, but if you toss something aftermarket in it, watch out.

With any new product (turbo kit) you're better off not buying the first production run. Wait to see if there are any bugs to work out first.
What happened to the tripoint turbo kit? did it go the way of the dodo?

I definately understand being one of the first....but I guess I am judging them on their character. I have had a couple of voice concersations with them and exchanges some emails with them.
As for tripoint....not sure what happened with them...I believe they were using an aerodyne turbo...but aerodyne has gone bye bye. Don't quote me on that one....not sure.

YP5,
Good to see another Markham boy.
My interest in the HiBoost system has also been peaked.
If you need a hand with the install once you've made up your mind, give me a shout. It's always better to experiment on someone else's car.

I've noticed lately that you guys are interested in the Hiboost kit. I'm still doing some research and I'm still worried about the intake tube running above the engine. Things like heat soak, and the length of the pipe, hood clearance etc. I've e-mailed them about the hood clearance and they said it'll clear the stock hood. I think the WW evo hood would look nice with this, that way you could show off the pipes and the fresh air would help to cool it down. I'm just waiting for someone to blow thier engine so I know what not to do. LOL. Acually, I hope no one blows thier engine. Anyways, this summer another turbo kit is to come out. Hopefully it'll be what we've been waiting for.

mrpopnfresh: I 100% that that setup would add more than some of the other conventional setups, but how much more? I don't think (without evidence) that it influences the end result because:
a) the turbo itself is hotter than air being drawn in
b) The kit utilizes a FMIC.
We shall soon see as people start to use the kit. I don't consider it to be an issue (again IMO), but it is a consideration.

If you are in So Cal, we invite you to test drive our car and see it for youself. Some people have already done it.
We are also doing free installation for our first kits sold if you live in Los Angeles.

If we were lean, the hp we got had been impossible and the engine might have broken during the dyno runs.
We are new for you guys and I understand the skepticism, but over 200 kits have been installed in exactly the same motor in the mazda 626(japanesde specs) with high succes. We are approached by mazda dealers in south america to install our kits in brand new cars that are then sold in those dealers. I will post some pictures in this forum of our work. This is why we decided to build a kit for the protege5. It shares the same engine and chassis.
