Begi Or Tripoint?

Hey guys Im perty much new to this turbo thing so bare with me.Anyways,Im planning on turbocharging my p5 and Im torn between to turbokits.First BEGI'S turbo kit looks mighty nice and I thrust the garret turbo they are using but does the kit include the intercooler and all parts nessesary? or do need to purchace any other parts?Tripoint's kit looks ok but I dont know about the turbo they are using(aerodine) never heard of them before but they do supply you with all the parts nessesary (exept the clutch which they do recomend). My main concern is that I would hate to invest that much money on a kit that might break down in a year w/out warranty, dependibility is a first for me and from what I've read they both claim about the same power output so I dont think thats an issue.I would like to choose the right kit for me and I would gladly appreciate any comments or ideas you guys might have and if theres any other kits available or in the process of being built please let me know. One more thing,If I purchase a after market exhaust will I have to modify it after I turbocharge my ride?Im planning to go with Racing beat catback soon.

Well, as for the exhaust, if it's only a catback you won't have to worry about getting a custom exhaust. The only exhaust peices the turbo kit would be changing is the exhaust manifold and the downpipe to the cats. If done right, the downpipe should just bolt up to the remaining stock exhaust.

Other than that, I can't really say about the turbo kits. I believe the BEGI kit has everything you'll need aside from boost gauges and whatnot. To be honest I haven't heard a whole lot about the tripoint kit (not saying that it's bad, but I read a lot of stuff about the BEGI kit). I'm sure someone else can help you out. There's a member on here (Wshyde i think) who already has the BEGI kit, he was the donor car for the project. Check in the really long thread about the BEGI kit, he has videos on the last page of the thread.

If I had a P5 or similarly equiped 2.0 FS Protege, I'd definately look into the BEGI kit.

do the BEGI kit. it will bolt into your car, and retain all emissions stuff. yes ALL emissions stuff, including the first cat. they also have a ton of experience with turbocharging mazdas.

I guess I am a little bias. Just remember Corky Bell of BEGI is an engineer w/ 26 years of experience under his belt and has written two published books on supercharging and turbocharging. The kit comes with everything. I trust this man with my life!

begi or tripoint

whats up WSHADE, I was taking a look at your ride and I got to tell you it looks phat!By now Im leaning towards BEGI's turbo kit for the simple fact that Corky does have a long time supercharging mazdas and to tell you the thruth Im convinced, damn 26 years exp.?perty sure he is one of the best. By the way any news on when the kit would be ready?Do you know the price range for the kit after the 1'st ten are sold?Cant wait to to kick some civic ***.

Fast Import Cars, Inc. (FIC) is just about done with their turbo kit. I own the donor car for that project. (WSHADE, isn't it great being turbo donors!? ) It'll come with everything needed to install (aside from the tools and the know-how) and should end up running about $2899 or something close to that for like 6-8psi.

Those are the guys that made the gauge pod for the proteges.

Hope this helps..
