I just wanted to see the setup, ya you wont be able to see the fsze stuff mostly but its nice to see thecustom stuff, and you should be going faster than the 13s with that **** in particular high 13s, I would hope you can tune that to 12s with a decent driver

Got 2nd overall in the Professional drags at Brandenton Motorsports Park for the NOPI not too long ago.. he's runnin a '76 white RX-7. The Protege was his project and I paid what the damn thing was worth plus $3200..If anyone's around go out there any Saturday and search for the Bright *** "lipstick red" Protege and then talk ur **** to my face while im laughing all the way down the track.
Well, seeing as I'm in Colorado, I won't be able to make it.

But, why would you buy a car that you have clue about?

I bought the car from Mike because he's been a long time family friend and my dad has bought three RX-7s from him.. He specializes more in RX-7's but this Protege was the prototype for his new Mazdaspeed. I dont know how the two are related but when he bought the Mazdaspeed it was about the time I threw a rod in my engine so I bought it from him. I needed something and it was in my price range at the time. I'm going out this thursday with my brother and he's going to run it for me and see what he gets.. 13.6 is still my best and that was in 85 degree weather.. I was tired of my friend who has a Jetta 1.8T laugh at me so i stopped running it. My brother should be able to squeeze most of the power out of the engine and I will have pics soon.. I'll take some this thursday as well as a pic of the time he gets on the clock.

I missed that up there. But you are right...

My other question is, if you don't really know what you bought, how do even know it is running an FS-ZE?

SORRY!! It is a 79.. I went and saw Mike yesterday and read the news paper article on his wall.. and i do know that its an FS-ZE because he told me before i bought the car the same thing happened as with my 99 so he decided to make it his project but he decided to go for a Mazdaspeed instead. I need to know what's on this thing though so I'll ask. I have to sell it since it's becoming a tad bit expensive to maintain..

Actually the 2nd Gen Eclipse runs 13-14 psi. I own one so I should know. It also has a compression ratio of 8.5:1, as opposed to the 1 st gen motor(much better for high boost) of 7.8:1. My old BPT motor had 8.2:1 and my B6T was running 7.8:1 also. Both of those motors saw 15psi + for quite some time. Most well thought out turbo cars run 9.0:1 compression or lower. It's a pity that Mazda did not simply bolt in the BPT motor for the Mazdaspeed Protege so that this issue with engine strength, connecting rods etc would never have been an issue. Hopefully the 2.3 liter turbo will be built by Mazda and not another low pressure N/A kit. More than likely that is what it will be, 4-5 psi and a stock motor. Oh well.

the new protege with the 2.3 is gonna be the mazda 3 aka ford focus.. thats all it is.. brother inlaw went to school for them last week.. it is a ford focus with a diffent body.. the 2.3 is a straight up ford engine .. they will offfer this 3(aka focus) witht he japanese design 2.0l engine too. The 2.3 liter also performs just as good as the msp . it has about the same amount of hp but not as much..

whoa!! The 2.3 in the 3 is NOT a ford designed engine!!! It is part of the mazda MZR Family of engines..the 2.3 was developed for Ford but by MAZDA...and you have it backwards...the Mazda 3 was the first car to get the new chassis that the new Mazda 3/Ford Focus/Volvo S40...The new 3 will not perform as well as a Mazdaspeed Pro either!! The Mazdaspeed is underrated from the factory...a more accurate rating at the fly would be more like 185 hp based on actual dyno runs...also the 3 has nowhere near the suspension setup the MSP has, nor does it have the LSD, or thicker axles like the MSP, or the same size wheels and tires, or even a comparable stereo system for that matter. I'm not going to comment about where you got your info but PLEASE,PLEASE research your info before you go posting it on here as facts... someone might actually take you seriously

I respect the fact your friend is a mechanic. Do you have anything to back this claim ? Tell me exactly he got this "ranking". However I am a ford employee and i remember specifically when Ford commissioned mazda to design it's new 4 cylinder engines...I also notice there wasnt any response to the Mazdaspeed comparison you made. You are also basing your post on what you heard..i got my info straight from FORD

Having dynoed a MSP I can attest that it is making around 170 horsepower, not 185. 137 wheel horsepower equals around 170 flywheel hp on a Dyno Dynamics dyno. The 2.3 motor is based off the old Pinto motor as far as I knew?

Brett.

well u did research then why is this guy sayin its a design from a pinto

i am gettin confused now

and my brother inlaw was rank 3 because all of the mazda mechanics in the usa are required to take certi test on all the cars.. to qualifiy to work on them .. then they compile all those scores and average him out he keeps on getting 3rd place to 8 place .. so he knows what he is doing...
