My head unit

95 ES 5-speed.

Put in one of those double DIN surplus Mazda units that were offered on Ebay for $170 a few months ago. With a little cutting of the plastic spacer in between the stock unit and the bin, it dropped right in and plugged right up. Looks like it came that way from the factory. The only problem is that the cup holder can only now hold a can of soda, anything taller will bump the ***** and screw up the sound or turn the unit off.

Wow I'm suprised only one person has the taste to own an eclipse deck. I own an Eclipse 5605, its the in dash 6 disc changer. I've had it for about 3 years now, it was like $750 when I bought it. I love that deck and have no intentions of getting a new Eclipse until the one I own breaks, or if they invent a CD player that will jack me off while driving.
Eclipse are the ****, cause they have some of the best sound quality the industry has to offer, and I really like the fact that they don't try to sell you on stupid bells and whisltes like stupid ****** dolphins swimming around your display or some stupid **** like. It always cracks me up when people say "hey check out my CD player", and it has some stupid **** like stars, or waves, or ****** dolphins floating around the display, and I'm like "hmmm that's nice, sounds like **** though, hope all that stupid **** on your screen doesn't get you into a wreck"
One of the coolest features about Eclipse's limited displays are you can turn em off, your dash looks are dark and ****, and you can just enjoy what a good CD player is dupposed to do.....recreate high quality music playback.

Talking eclipse hard drive

Hey sweedenhouse, eclipse is coming out with a hard drive unit that is supposed to be compatible with eclipse decks that are 3 years old and newer, it might even be older deck compatible. It is similar to Kenwoods music keg in that you mount in your trunk and can remove the drive and connect to your computer for downloading. The rep i spoke to said $499 which is one hell of a bargain, should be released in November, i am going to wait til then so i can install everything at one shot

Hmm that's cool, but I'm not much into MP3's and ****. Eclipse doesn't (or at least hasn't) really concentrated on MP3 **** that much. I know their high end units currently don't support MP3 formats, its kinda along the same principles of theirs for not adding any deck power into theri high end decks as well. Cause they figure if your into a quality piece like that, you are not going to be running anything off deck power, nor will you be playing anything in less of a format than CD. It always trips people out when I tell em I got a $700 deck that has no deck power. But eh whatever.
I always buy my CD's anyway, so I wouldn't have a use for it.

Talking

All current Eclipse models from the CD3403 up are MP3 compatable, either on their own, or with the Commander Advanced. The "Keg" is a cool idea, but I probably won't buy one. I have Satellite. Also, Eclipse will have a Sirius Tuner for all E-COM compatable units buy Christmas (according to my rep). Oh, and my unit: CD8051, 8 volt front/rear/sub pre-amp tuner. Kicks *** and does NOT skip at 150.8 db's. Best tuner I've ever owned.

Yeah WITH the Commander, but on their own none of the high end Eclipse plays MP3's, most likely for the reason I sated above, like they don't expect borke *** people with burnt CD's to be rollin with high end Eclipse CD players. But of course they had to make it possible, cause there's a laywas a few exeptions and stuff.

I just purchased a Panasonic HR1003U. It's the ghost faceplate that's touchscreen. It's cheap and has what I want: decent RMS power to power the rear speakers and 5v preouts. $169 after rebate.
