Used to have a Boston CD-189 but it wouldn't fit in the pro. I loved that Blau. Its has now found a home in a 3 series ix (roomates moms car). I think they'll be happy together.

For reference onehawaiian, does your blau get real hot? as in the faceplate

Premier DEX-P9 is the unit I am working with now in a MSP.
I have had a Premier 940 in my last Protege, and before that a Blaupunkt San Francisco.
For the money Bluapunkt is hard to beat. For slightly more I like Premier, this McIntosh and finally Nakamichi, but I have never installed either of the last two in a Protege. I have a Nakamichi in my RX-7 and really enjoy it.

damn dave, gotta be bustin' out the high dollar HU's the P9 is awesome i found a guy selling one he used for a month for $600, but couldn't get the cash together fast enough to buy it the 940 is also awesome. the san francisco i had i loved, but it didn't love my bass oh well.

current HU: JVC KD-SH9750
Six for a P9 is not bad, I got mine as a pair, and lucked in via a regional distributor at a lower cost than that. I really need to invest in some upper end Alpines just to play with so I can have an informed opinion, it is just I have always had good results on Premier, and I have a weakness for Nakamichi from way back.
The protege dash actually has a pretty decent amout of room in it, about 6.75 when I measure it, so lots of options exsist.
Stay cool and be safe blue!

McIntosh makes Clarion don't they?? Also, a guy paid a **** load of money for a McIntosh HU when they first came out and had nothing but problems. Nakamichi is really nice, but their service sucks. Expect a 6 month delay if you have to get it serviced (seriously!) As for Blaupunkt, how do they sound? They have a crappy Signal to Noise ratio of 85 db's. Alpines are 105 db's and I think Kenwoods are around 102 or 108. I previously had a Kenwood CD player and had no problems with it except once in a blue moon, I would track up and the thing would go ballistic and go through all the tracks over and over without stopping. I sent it in for repair and it had worked ever since. The Alpine in SQ terms was noticeably better than the Kenwood. Kenwood had the most bang for your buck features though compared to Alpine.

Had an older pioneer then switched to a panasonic, and just recently got the alpine 7998 and love it. 10 times better than the other 2, but it's in a different price level so I guess it's to be expected.

HOLY COW, ALPINE 7995 FOR ONLY $300

I got in the new Crutchfield and the Alpine 7995 (no internal amp) is only $299!!!! That is $200 off the top because of it being sent out for clearance! I WANT ONE!!!

Make a wish foundation, if you are reading....I am dying...slowly, but just naturally!

the new san fransico has some sweet features, but i can't figure out the crappy s/n ratio hell, the new one upgrades from a 7 to 13 band eq and a bigger internal amp.
Nice LOL@Crutchfield's select a vehicle. "This Unit will not fit your car." What tha hail?!
