now, i know this may sound far fetched, but, has any one ever even thought about painting their deck (cd player, head unit, whatever you want to call it)...??
dont think im an idiot. just an idea.

I've painted my cdrom drive on my computer to match the case, but the only problem with painting your radio would be that you wouldn't be able to replace the labels on the buttons. You can always take off the buttons and paint the rest of the trim around the unit. It's not a bad idea at all, it just takes some imagination.
I actually had my faceplate in pieces in preparation to do it, but just never did.
I think it'd be easiest on a detatch-face deck - my Kenwood just had a couple screws on the back of the faceplate, and it pops apart.
Don't paint the buttons if they light up or have writing on them. The other thing is just remember that any writing on the faceplate itelf will get painted over. My Kenwood has very little writing on the plate itself (and nothing I "need" to see - I know what the buttons do), so that was no big deal. I was going to leave the buttons alone though - unpainted original color.
I still might do it for kicks - besides, when I put my faceplate back together, a hair from one of my frigging cats got stuck in there - right in the display window. I swear I try to brush it off once a week, forgetting it's INSIDE the faceplate. So I have to open it up again anyway.
It can definitely be done, though. Post some b4 and after pics if you decide to go for it!

Kenwood makes several MP3 decks - which do you have?
I have an MP8017 - I don't even think they are making them anymore - things change so fast. It basically has a black face, but I considered using the same silver paint I used on my interior bits to get it to match.
We'll see - good luck if you decide to paint yours.

so right now i have a sliver deck with a black/tan interior (white exterior) any ideas on what color it should be painted, either to match or maybe throw a different color into the scheme?
thanks
thanks
i tried to take it apart tonight, i got afraid though. i would like to take out the buttons, but how hard are they to put back in? i didnt want to experiment to much because i was afraid i might not be able to get them back together. i have the kenwood MPV619. any advice would be appreciated.
If your Kenwood is anything like mine (and I have no reason to think it's too much different), there should be a screw or two in the back of the face.
Once those are out, the face should pop apart. The buttons are no big deal at all to get back in place - most of them are attached to one another, so you shouldn't have 25 buttons loose - it'll most likely be a few sections, each having a bunch of butons connected to one another.
HINT - take stuff like this apart on a white towel or sheet - if there are any tiny springs or pieces that fall off, they won't get lost.
Go for it!

tight. i already figure out how to pop it apart i was just worried that the buttons would be too complicated to reassemble. thanks hh. i think i will do it some time when im not busy with work/school, so maybe...summer?
i was thinking tonight...
maybe i'll through a little carolina (light) blue into the mix. should actually look pretty cool with black/tan. maybe at least. what do you guys think?
