Tint Percentages

What tint % does everyone have? Is there a place online where I can see the difference? Thanks

I had 40% all over on my last car.

I think you're right about that. I might do the same thing to my Protege.. What are your locals laws on tinting like? I might get 25% or 30% all around, and just say **** the local laws. If I get a ticket for it, so be it. Anyone know how tough cops are on a stupid thing like that?

Just got mine tinted with 6% on the rear doors back and 25% on the front windows and a 6% strip across the windshield.
Watch out for the Police on this on as they carry around tint gauges to check for it.
If you wanted you go just tint the rest of the windows *limo* and tint your drivers window the legal %. I have seen this before and it does not look to bad. I think that most states have a 35% on the front windows other then Cali where your not supposed to have any Tint on the front.

You could also take it to a tint shop that can double limo the rear windows as I have done in the past to make it almost black but still minor amounts of light shine thru. Being in Arizona its hot as hell and need the tint. The cops really dont bother too much with our tint out here unless your looking for trouble.

I have also had a cop tell me to remove the tint on my windshield right in front of him, it was limo on the top about 6inches and 4 inches on the bottom.
needless to say I was only a minor at the time and told him to give me a ticket if he was going to be a dick. Took my pops to juvenile courts and told the judge that the show car I was in was just that and was getting gas in it. but then again most of the Police cars here are also tinted.
Just watch out and tell the cop its a show car and your just running out old gas from it. Be polite and roll the windows done in the event of getting stopped and put your hands on the dash or window sill to prevent the cop from being irrational this always helps them do their job and makes them feel more comfortable.

Jesus, he wanted you to take the tint off right in front of him?? That's ridiculous, is it even legal for him to request that you do that? What kind of ticket do you get? $20, $40, $100? I have no idea what the severity of that kind of offense is. Thanks-

You dont have 20 on the windsheild though....correct? Cause isnt the legal amount up here 15% for front window?

As far as I know, up here we have 3 choices.....

1 - Dont tint

2 - All windows except front can be 25%, front must remain or have minimal tint ( I think 10 - 15%)

3- All windows including front can be 25%, but you must leave a small portion clear for viewing. Not sure how it breaks down but something like, 35% on the bottom, 35% on the top, leaving you with 30%(not tinted) to see through.

Anyone else had any run-ins with the law regarding their tint?

I looked at your site. I live in VA though, where the cops are notoriously annoying. They'll bug you about anything, it sucks. All of the crime here is white collar crime, so they always look for action with anyone or anything that isn't 100% ordinary.

Foxy,
stop a cop and ask to see a tint gauge and or stop in a tint shop and take a look at the difference, you got your work cut out for you to take that tint off, if it is still in decent shape and smooth, I would have someone either remove it for you or retint the back windows that don't roll down and that will make your front windows seem darker.

35% on all side windows and back.

the tint on the front sides is illegal but at 35% i should be ok. so far, i've had no problems and there are many cars on the road here with similar tint jobs.

i much prefer the look of a consistent % all the way around the car.

True that. Where in VA you from? I'm getting my tint done hopefully by next week by LA Tint in Alexandria. Price range of $150 - $270. I'm still searching for a decent shop though.

Justin, is it you who had your car tinted in Liberty Rd in MD or somebody else? Yeah I was thinking about going 35% front and the rest 20% but I guess I'll keep 35% all around.

Check out some paint shops to get some tint remover liquid stuff as it will help in getting the sticky residue to release the tint.
A couple of sharp razor blades also will help you but make sure and tape off what you dont want to cut
I would even recommend taking your windows out if it becomes a major problem to get the tint off.
A buddy of mine took his in to get retinted and was quoted around 645.00 to take off the old and retint.
Good luck
