Subwoofer Grilles?

build your own! Use the grill you do not like, and cover it with material, or get some plexiglass and cut, or have cut, a design you like.
Think outside the box and design something yourself!

maybe we should run this as a "what is the most unusual grill you ever saw?" thread...
I have seen once a massively drilled out hupcap as a cover in a impala SS, it looked pretty good. Or the weilded chain lenghts- it looked Bad (in a good way!).
I like the idea of aluminum rods curved into rods like Hihoslva is showing us, or maybe even initials!
The sky is the limit!

I've already scoped out some cabinet handles at Ikea that would work PERFECT as sub grilles - like the JL box.
Another option of course - and cheap - is just to use the ugly waffles, but cover them with grillecloth or other thin fabric. You could use colors, or a patterned fabric, too, if you want - so long as it is relatively acoustically transparent. Cheap and easy, and no ugly waflles.
A scroll-cut piece of plexiglass can look good, too.....edge lit with LEDs....hehe.

You know - if you buy the plexi (any home center, really) and make the design on paper, any lumber or wood shop should be able to cut it out for you - all they need is a scroll saw with a fine blade - I'm sure if you call around, you can find a shop that'll do it for only a few bucks.
In fact, I already have a Mazda symbol in JPEG format that is about 14" x 11" on my hard drive, and I also have the same image split into two halves (so that you can print it out in two sheets on a normal printer). All you'd need to do is match the halves and use rubber cement or a temporary spray-on adhesive to bond it to the plexi, then have it cut out for you.
Let me know if you want the images - I can email them to you no problem. If anyone else wants them, speak up and maybe I can upload them somewhere for anyone to take, or email them to whoever wants 'em.

I used to have a headboard like you describe, except it was glass with a nice green emerald glass. I have gotten old enough though that I just have a nice big sleigh bed now!

I have JL Audio grills over mine. They look nice, but they are pretty full so its kinda hard to see the sub behind them. Ill try and get pics soon.

IKEA is the greatest - I feel bad for anyone who doesn't have one nearby.
