in a trunk like yours I'd say a free-air sub should face out towards the license plate. If you had a sealed bandpass box it wouldn't matter which way it faced.

What any audiophile will tell you is to move the box around. and just put it where it sounds the best.

However I have done some reading and found where it will be the loudest. you need to put the box up against the rear of the car and face the subs foward or put them near the back and face it twords the licence plate.

I have heard that best sound comes from faceing the box pointing twoard the back and againt the back seat is the best for hatchbacks. while having the sides is the best for sedans.

Im bulding a box for my 12" and just dont have room to put them against the side without loosing alot of space. so im painting it back and keeping the passanger seat down because the sub will take up the bigger side.

what do u mean towards the side? i want to get a custom box done but i think i might do my own i have 2 alpine type r 10's and 2 kicker comp 10's but only one exslion(however you spell it)560 watt amp so i only have enough to push the alpines so i have the other ones in the house but im gonna make a custom box for all 4 and just run two till i come up with the monie to get another amp...does that sound like a good thing to do? just build ti for 4 speakers then worry about the other amp later on?

By a custom box I assume you mean wood right, If so then just go 2 by two. If you mean fiberglass then you should really do them all at the same time to have them look cleaner. Or even if its just wood I would have them all made at the same time so everything goes together.

The box should have separte cambers for each sub so it really wont matter how many you have at the same time.

Have them face the rear of the trunk. This allows the sound waves to travel. You can always experiment, but in my car, they face the rear.
