Has anyone tried Sylvania Halogen XtraVision?

According to the site, they "provide three times more illumination". They also cost half as much as the SilverStar bulbs ($9.99 from AutoZone).

Any comments?

I am using MTEC bulbs currently for my low beams. I have a pair for my fogs, but don't have them installed yet. Color temp says 4350k. Very close to PIAA PlasmaFX. I LOVE THEM!!!!!!!!!! The light is very white with a very light bluish tint similar to what you see in HID. Got them on Ebay for like $27 shipped. Just search for MTEC and your bulb #. You should find at least a half dozen at any time. Just a little info about something that's worked for me.
Gotta love EBay.

If these are as good as you state, and last halfway worth a shnitz, they are a steal at $24 shipped. Hope to get them this week.... we shall see. Much less than any PIAA bulbs I've used in the past (of which I have no complaints, other than price.)

Any further insight? Still working as expected?

TIA - Jim

Hey, thanks for the idea, I actually used them in my map lights, hella brighter! , I think I'd rather see maps better than have people see my license plate better

Silverstars for P5

For the P5ers,

Have you found silverstars for all 3 sets in our cars? By this I mean 9005's, H7's and H3's? I want to make sure that the lights all match. If not silverstars, any comparable bulbs that would match. I checked powerbulbs.com but couldn't find all of them.

Thanks,

P5Ottawa

if you have a 95-96 the free w5w's fit in the parking lights and match the osrams very closely, which gets rid of the ugly yellow light. they also fit the license plate, map, and curtosy lights on the doors, they have a replacement guide on sylvania, look it up

ok...sorry guys but I'm a newbie especially when it comes to posting things on here...but my deal is this...so, please bare with me...

low beam's are H7's
high beams are 9005's

I just bought some Sylvania Cool Blues 9005 for my high beams and I was going to get some SilverStars for my lows....but if my research is correct...Silverstars dont come in low beams...I can not find Silverstar H7's...am I correct?

however...
according to purewhitemp5...his post said that he wants to take out his Silverstars because they are to bright and everyone keeps flashing their brights at him because they think his brights are on....well, like I said earlier...if my research is correct...Silverstars aren't in low beams only in highs...therefore..his high beams must be on, no?

My brother and I got Hella 100/80W for $15CAN each as a replacement for the stock Toyota 60/55W which were dim as crap. The lighting improvement is substantial and the wires are unaffected by the increased current flowing threw them.

I first considered getting the Silverstars in H4, but the price of $50CAN for each bulb was beyond my budget. Another thing I learned is that a coating on any bulb will most likely if not always block light output from the filament. I don't know if this applies to the Silverstars which have a silver coating on them but this applies to 99% of the bulbs out there.

The coating blocks off the all the wavelengths of every color except for the wavelength of the color of the coating hence allowing less light on the road.

I think it's best to stick with uncoated bulbs from a quality manufacturer instead, as it puts out the most light, albeit in a boring yellow colour, which is better than white in rain actually.

H7 Silverstars are available. www.powerbulbs.com has them (UK)

No one carries them in the US.

MackDaddy...

are they called something else besides Silverstars on that sight?

I looked at the lineup of Phillips H7's on powerbulb's.com and came up with....

Vision Plus
Blue Vision
Premium
All Weather
Vision Care
and Phillips standard type bulbs...

I would recommend the phillips
I purchased them about 7 months ago
and they are still going strong, very bright
but has a yellowish tint on it. however, they are brighter than stock and looks a little whiter than stock
so, it is not hyper white or any of those ****
but, it works very good in rain and dark areas
I wouldn't switch with anything esle

hope it helps

I think I have the vision plus

The Silverstarts are not Phillips, they are Osram/Sylvania.

They are actually 2 types of Silverstars both made by Osram/Sylvania.

One is the uncoated glass European market ones.

The other is the purplish/silver coat on NA models.

I contemplated getting the Osram SilverStars, but ended up buying a set of Phillips All Weather Vision, and Phillips Vision Plus. Powerbulbs came thru like a champ. I'd recommend dealing with them.
