Since when aren't brakes a performance item? Drilled and/or slotted rotors may not increase braking power, but both remove unsprung weight and rotational inertia. Every bit of weight that can be removed from the hubs helps handling, acceleration and BRAKING. Thats why so many racers do it, and why almost every motorcycle made today does too.

In race conditions they also aid in off gassing the pads, add a little cooling and reduce fade to a slight degree. I've cooked many a wheel bearing thru brake over heating, and use cross drilled and slotted rotors to help eliminate that problem alone. It does make a difference, when your brakes glow red hot. But if you're doing that on the street you should be shot.

Big rotors with matched calipers typically add weight, but can reduce heat build up even more, by generating more torque with less friction. And under race conditions offset the weight penelty. Why else would the world's highest performance cars and motorcycles use big cross drilled Brembos? Just cuz they look good?

Sir Nuke is right though. You have to do it right, and I wouldn't replace a prefecly good rotor on a protege just for looks. You also must maintain an engineered ballance between front and rear brake torque whatever you do, or you're in for a world of hurt someday.

Stoptech is a fine set up if you can justify the price for looks alone, because they're heavier than stock, and nobody on the street really needs that extra power or over heat protection.
