rockford hu

I need some opinons on rockford cd players. I haven't heard one and am looking at buying one on ebay. I was also looking at a sony and a clarion. I have had a clarion for about 4 years now and loved it . But the rockford looked nice. What to do, what to do.

One of the rockford units is made for them by Delco of all people! If I want a Delco, I will get a chevy.... Gro Harlem is got it on course here, the Sony stuff is not what it used to be. They had a high end, Sony ES, but it is no longer manufactured. They had a good warrenty on the Explod series of hardware, but they have walked away from honoring it. No matter how much I may want to, I just don't trust them anymore.
Pioneer has probably the best bang to the buck on the market right now. Some cool features in their to end decks. They have a upscale line, premier, which is very similar, slightly higher RCA out voltage, and a two year warrenty vs. one in Pioneer. But that only applies if purchased via a authorized dealer, which most everyone on E-Bay is not, so save the extra bucks and just get the Pioneer. Premier does have a couple of truely killer top of the line units, the DEX p-9, but very big bucks and really a competition level unit, no intended for day to day use.
Claron is pretty good mid fi stuff. Most folks don't know that they much of the McIntosh car audio is actually built for them by clarion. Once again their upper end products, like Poineer's, are awsome.
JVC makes some nice headunts, focused on being daily user friendly and targeted at the lower end of mid fi.
Alpine- either love it or hate it, I am not too fond of it, but I have also lost a couple of SQ contest to cars with thier hardware, so I have to acknowledge it can be very good.
Upper end Kenwood is worth a look. Mazda was not just throwing a unit in when they went with a Kenwood for the MP-3.
The units I am most impressed with currenly are of all people Blaupunkt. Low price for the technolgy, their digital FM section, and some innovative features all make them the sleeper bargin right now. Thier San Francisco model matches up nicely to the 9300 or 9400 (when they finally come out) Pioneer models, and at a nicer cost. Blaupunkt also has a cool in dash five disc changer. It elemintes the trips to trunk, and looks like it was designed for the double DIN hole in late model proteges.
Lastly a standby favorite of mine is the Nakamichi series. The name alone impresses anyone with a bit of audio knowledge. Thier entry level stuff is very decent, but no where in the class of their top tier, stuff like the 45Z can be had on E-Bay for good prices.
If you are in a late model Mazda, the stock unit is actually pretty good. Good enough that unless there is a feature you just have to have, or you plan to compete, it will be a find starting palace for a system.
Good luck,

I thank all for opinons. Still don't know what I want . I am not looking for anything to compete with. I just need something thats not going to die in 6 monthes. I am not running any bass or have plans in the near future. Right now I just replaced all my stocks with clarions and a clarion hu. The unit is starting to fade on me so its time to go. I have had it for almost 4 years now . So I have been pretty happy with it.

If you have a CD burner, look into getting an MP3 CD player - totally eliminates the need for a changer, and the SQ is excellent.

Since buying my Kenwood MP8017, I don't even look at CD players anymore unless they are MP3 capable - and I have considered replacing the 8017. I can't see myself ever buying a regular player again. Plus, the prices for many makers' MP3 units are very reasonable - not much more than a regular player.

I don't know all that much about the different makes, but I do know that if you look, stay away from Aiwa MP3 players - I read tons of bad reviews and complaints about skipping. Plus, they don't have a dimmer (and are really bright, which would drive me nuts), and don't pick up where they left off when playing an MP3 - if you power down, the unit starts the track over at power up - that sucks, IMO.

Just some thoughts.

I ended up getting a jvc player. Its got the mp3 playback like suggested. I didn't even know that was possible until I started reading descriptions. I got like 3 gigs of music on my pc. Now the only problem is finding the music I want. Try and post pics when it gets here. Can't wait

Kenwood's and Pioneer's are good.

When you get rich later, you can get the Eclipse Commander, a CD/MP3/DVD, plug a VCR in, hook up your cell phone for automated dialing and answering, run separate sources to rear-seat LCD's and push to amplifiers with 8V outputs. By the way, the commander has the sweetest active matrix screen I've ever seen.
