Removing Plastic Around E-Brake

I have a 97' protege Lx, i wanna know how to remove the plastic that runs from the container, around the ebrake, and stops at the cupholders. im sure its only a matter of snapping them off somhow, but i dont dare, cos i might break somthing.

I got a P5 and yesterday when I was vaculing it, I stuck the vacum nosle in the opening where the e-break moves up and down and when I pulled to tale it out the whole e-brake frame thing came off. Pull on it from the top, I would probably stick 2 fingers in there and pull.
