putting on a new brake handle

I want to put a new e-brake handle on my car (2001 5-speed), but i cant figure out how the stock one comes off, or if it even needs to. If i buy a new e-brake handle cover, does it fit over whats already there or does that NEED to come off?? i cant figure it out please help me!

i bought a momo e brake handle and the thing that i had to do to my p5 was to remove by ways of cutting the stock e brake handle with a sharp razor...and peel it off...if you do get a momo e brake handle, it is best to get the adapter for a mazda and it will constitute a perfect fit

so i have to cut off the old one? that sounds kinda crappy. oh well, i'll prolly still do it, did you get any instructions when you bought the momo or did you just happen to know you needed to cut it? any if you remember, where did you cut it? sorry about the 20 questions, just trying to not destroy my car as much as possible! thanks!

You can remove it without cutting it, but it requires a lot of patience and effort. Like Rawny said, make sure you get the adapter for the release button if not it will be loose in the front. Also make sure you get the boot to cover the handle. If you do not want to put the effort removing the handle, just cut it on the bottom, if you make a clean cut you can use it again.
