Pioneer DEH-P7400MP

I am interested in getting this head unit for my car. The MSRP is $375, and there is no way in hell it's worth that. www.NYCelectronics.com has it for $249.99 but they look kinda shady if you ask me, but they have gotten 3 good reviews. On the other hand, www.sounddomain.com has it for $279.95 and they look like a true company online business. Just curious if you guys new any good place that has a better deal, and maybe check out NYC Electronics to see if you think I could trust them...thanks for all the effort guys!!

try this place, they have it for 225.

http://www.lgdsuperstore.com/dehp7400mp.html

this place has some of the best prices i've seen, plus it's legit, i've ordered stuff from them (speakers and hu) and got the speakers already, hu should arrive tomorrow according to ups tracking. just don't expect prompt shipping, or at least that's been the case with me. i guess it depends on how in demand the stuff you want is. good luck.

I have that headunit. Its very nice. I love the 3 preouts. Front-Rear and Sub outs.
It has High Pass crossovers for the speakers. to cut the bass and give u some more highs. and it makes the sound quality crystal clear. and has a crossover for the sub. All are fully functional from the headunit menu.

Very easy to use headunit. im very please with it, and the price is fair. could be more like $199. But its a Premier so ur payin more.

Umm. any other questions about it ill be glad to answer regarding the unit. best thing about it is its XM ready and has the MP3 Decoder in it. :-p

Yea, I just got this HU a week or so ago, I love it. I got it from www.thezeb.com . They had it for $250, and the shipping was lightning fast! It only took 3 days to get here (PA) from NC, and it wasn't a lot to ship it either ($6 or so). They even called to see if I needed an install kit or wiring harness. I couldn't be happier with the deck or www.thezeb.com.

Go to http://www.protege5online.com and contact Mitch there. He probably frequents protegeclub too. Anyway, he has the DEH-P740MP for sale at $260 even if it's not listed. That's the better Premier version. It may be 260 shipped which is nice. I bought the unit from him and I got the wiring harness and dash install kit included. Since he has his own P5 parts business and is well liked in the P5 community he is 100% trustworthy. The only thing some may not like is he uses Paypal to accept payments in which case you will need an account. Most people already have one from using Ebay. Contact Mitch and you won't be disappointed.

I disagree that the 740MP is a "better" version, the only difference between the premier and the regular pioneer is the premier has an extended warranty. I've owned 3 pioneer hu's and never had a problem with one, I wouldn't spend the extra money on the warranty personally...

Check the voltage of the rca outputs between the two. If this is like most premier, it has higher voltage. Also the reason they are able to give a second year of warrenty is twofold- First the extra few dollars in cost offsets the second year, and second, and more important, the sampling rate on the production line and of components is at higher rates than the standard poineer product line.
I have a friend who used to work doing contracts inside GM- he has an interesting story about Delco parts. There is a relay that is used in most every Pontiac and Buick made, and it cost about 3.00. The exact same relay is used in corvettes, sourced as a Delco part. It cost about 12.00. The difference is the corvette contract specifies Zero defect rates on product delivered, so they sample at 100% rates to aviod the penalty clause. Sampling makes a difference in the initial drop dead rate, and the subsequent odds of failure in a predicted life span.
Also, the true top of the line Premier stuff in never duplicated into the Pioneer line, the P1R and the DEX P-9 have no match in the Pioneer line. Usually features appear anywhere from 6 months to a year ahead in the Premier line, and then reflect in the Pioneer line.
For my friends who go Pioneer, I always steer them into Premier for a few bucks more.

Good call on the outputs man, it looks like the premier has 2 4v outputs and the standard has 2 2v. I dont understand how higher sampling (i suppose you mean actual physical testing) rates justify more cost though. Other than the extra outputs, the deck is mechanically the same.

I know were only comparing about 10 dollars or so in cost but does the high volt outputs and the more scrutanous testing really matter that much?

I'm mostly interested about the outputs though, I guess if i compared it to computers i would do it, like if i had a opportunity to get cl 2.0 memory for 10 bucks more than the cl 2.5, i would do it, sure .5 clock cycles may not make much of a difference but why not right?

Ah- computer failure rates- now this is something I get to litigate allot!!
Higher sampling cost more, more people doing test, sample pulls, compiling of data, interpertation, all cost people, time and money.
Kingston is a interesting example, more costly chips, but they do a 100% sample rate. If the stuff DOA's or has compatability problems they will back it to the nines. The thing here is initial failure rates, and inferred is long term failure rates (this is backed up statistically, terminate initial failure and you reduce long term failures dramatically.
On a mainframe I would sue if the dinkin them was short on mips horsepower was off by 20%!
The four volts is useful in getting over noise thresholds, and is a big key in setting the gains on an amp. Generally the higher the output of the RCA's the better you will be on the voltage out to amp input ratio.
Silly sounding stuff isn't it?

I thought there were 3 4v RCA outs on the Premier?

also the preimer has all gold plated contacts and RCA's, not a big deal but its better... somehow.. (you won't notice a diffrence though) and the silver trim around the primier version is closer to the silvertrim in a p5, but i was a cheap *** and got the pioneer DEH-6400, i couldn't be happier
