Opinion about stereo upgrade/replacement

I just bought a 2002.5 Protege ES that has the 6-CD in-dash HU.

I was wondering if this factory HU is any good, should I just replace the speakers or is it worth replacing everything - HU and speakers?

Any recommendations on kinds of speakers appreciated.

Thanks
H

Just had a similar thread to this on the other site... http://www.msprotege.com/forum/showthread.php?t=63208

Basically the HU is really good actually. If you want to run an amp, you can get a simple LOC from www.davidnavone.com Many have actually proven to be even better SQ setup like this compared to aftermarket decks.

Also, just speakers alone from deck-power (factory or not) will really not gain you allthatmuch, and could verylikely be a downgrade in a way if you don't plan to run an amp. More details in that other thread.

I personally hated the stock deck.... skipped way too easy... and I'm not driving on crater roads either...

I have the stock 6 disc changer HU, and did the upgrade.....I replaced all my speakers...and I am running a 5 channel Alpine amp that accepts line inputs, so no LOC's were required either. the amp I have pushs 40 watts RMS with a max of 75 to each channel...and 120 watts RMS to the single 10" sub with a max of 175. it sounds GREAT....

I thought the same thing! I saw you were still listed as a Mod, but I can't think of the last time I saw you post.
