Ohm problems!! make 6=4!

how in gods name do you get a dual voice coil sub w/ a 6 ohm load down to a 4 ohm load?? the sub is rated for 450w rms, and the amp is rated at 400x1@4 ohm

Dual voice coils confuse, me, but the only way i see it is that i can get down to 3 ohms if i wire the coils in parallel?

But then if i think about it the amp would/should be putting more power into the subs, more than 400w....but would it surpass 450 and damage the sub any?

is there ANY way to get that sub to 4 ohms???

To get to 4 ohms you will need 3 drivers. connect them like this
On each driver you series the coil this gives you 12 ohms
then connect the 3 drivers + together and -together

C + - A connect A to B on each
speaker#1 each driver then connect
B + - D all C's together, then connect
all D's together. = 4 ohm
C + - A
speaker #2 B + - D

speaker#3 C+ - A
B+ - D

If you only have 1 driver connect both + together and both - together .This will give you 3 ohms . Most new amps can drive this load when bridged to mono if the driver is in a sealer enclosure as the impedance curve will usually not go below 4 Ohms .

yeah like blue LEDz said...you'll be fine sub wise running the 3ohms, only thing you gotta double check, but should be fine is if your amp is able to handle the 3ohm load. You'll kill a sub a lot faster by sending too little power and clipping it...so as long as your not hearing distortion(well I guess there could be unaudible distortion) you should be fine...

Lightbulb

Well im just trying to make the amp and sub work together ,to be more helpful the sub is a nakamichi sp-w1200d and im trying to fit in either the pa-8001 (400x1@4, 800x1@2) or the pa-4001 (200x1@4, 400x1@2)

im assuming both amps can handle a 3 ohm load which is what i intend on working with, cuz i only have one sub, im looking for sound quality, not loudness, and i have an obsession with keeping all my components the same brand, so it all must be nakamichi

it looks like im gonna take the 3 ohms and stick it with the 4001 and get somewhere inbetween 200 n 400 watts to the sub, ill measure it when its actually set up.

On the side note, what are yalls opinions in general on the nakamichi components? i intend on putting in their 6.5" component speakers , and i already told u the sub i was using, and a cd45z is on the way...im not much of a loud person, but i do like to turn it up some, but sound quality is much more important to me, im not much of a car stereo guy, but to give u ppl something to work with i consider the bose system in the millenia s mid-level, i like the sound quality, but a tad bit louder would b nice...sorry for the essay post, thanx for all the help!!
