new system ideas

well, i just got an 03 protege sedan to replace my totaled 02 infiniti g20.......and im already thinking about replacing my system, hoping maybe some of you can helpme out with some thoughts. herres what im coming from:

nakamitchi cd45z head unit
alpine f540 4 channel amp
jl vr components up front (6.5 in)
jl vr coaxials in back (6.5 in)
...and no sub.

heres what im thinking of for my protege:

alpine, eclipse, or blaupunkt head (my nak sounded great, looked good, and was easy to use, but DAMN did it skip!)

alpine f540 amp (im pretty set on this, i liked my last one a lot, and the price is pretty reasonable)

jl vr 6*9 coaxes in back, 6*8's in front (+tweeters on the dash? i liked the higher image of components, why do we have to have oval speakers?) possibly change the fronts for mb quart 6*8 components

jl 250.1 amp for sub
jl prowedge with 1 10w3 sub

any comments/suggestions?

Hello Rip, and Welcome to our happy little corner of the net, and to our Club. There are TWO BIG fridge'S in the corner with anything you can think of in them...help yourself...of course only take what you can LEGALLY have.

make yourself at home on one of the big fluffy couches, kick your shoes off, put your feet up on one of the tables, yes we are allowed to do that, mom don't care....and take it easy.

oh...btw....every once in a while a food fight breaks out...so you may not want to wear nice clothes here.

Welcome!!

I have but one thing to say....you will LOVE the powerwedge. I have one in my P5.

Well, IMO....

if it were my car, i'd ditch the coaxes and get components. Yes, it will be a little more work to make mounting plates, but masonite is real cheap, light weight, easy to cut and nice and thin.

Lots of power too, you may not need it all or even use it all, but it's better to have too much, than too little

Sounds like a good setup to me.
I might use the 300M alpine amp just to have them match.
The JL 10W3v2 is definitly one of my favorites as is the VR components. i would do 6 1/2 componenets in the front a the 6x9 coaxles in the rear.
Alpine has alway been my choice of head units. Th enew ones coming out look great.

can you fit 6.5 comps in front instead of 6*8's? thatd be great, i know how awesome the vr 6.5's sound from my last set-up. are the differences between the 10w3 and the 10w3v2 big enough to warrant needing to build a box for the v2, vs just getting the 10w3 prowedge? also, how does the green of the alpine look next to the red lights of our interior?

thanks for all the help guys.

Purchsed my PR5 three weeks ago and putting my old system in was the first thing I did.

I love the Alpine 9813 CD/MP3/WMA receiver. 60 watts by four is loud. I did not have to use my Profile Amp (75 RMS x 4), which was in my old 01' Protege ES 2.0 before I got the alpine receiver.

I think it is the best looking MP3 receiver out there and I have had many people comment on it. For $400 and all the options it has, I think it was a great purchase. I think the Rockfords I have installed in my car, produce some clean, crisp, and loud music that can **** people off. Along with the sub-woofer and amp combo I have in the rear.

Got it from Rayco.....a audio/video store in shrewsbusy, MA.
$399 + 40 installation + supplies on my 01' ES, and they put it in free on my PR5.

I put in all the speakers and amps myself in the old and new one.

Then its not the 9813, that comes out in feb. So I would assume it was the 7894, $399.

Definitly a nice peace.

What Group, Protege Club?

Talking

sorry.....my bad

yeah I have the 7894........

I thought it was funny when you said you had the new one ( that was the numer i used), when i knew I had last year's. Sorry, but still, it is a great receiver and I am no-way unhappy with any of its options.

I bet the new one that you are waiting for will be unbelievable, too.

Actauly I may have to wait longer. I work at Tweeter in Salem NH but to get the stuff at discount we ususaly have to wait a few extra months after the product comes out.

I had the Rockford Fosgate FRC1369 in my Protege sedan and they were great. They are a three way 6 x 9 that can take up to 150 max watts. I had a profile AMP with 75RMS x 4, 150 Max x four powering my speakers on about half gain. They are impressive speakers and put out some good clear sounding power. When I got the alpine receiver, the 60 watt max/channel was enough to play these speakers loud enough w/o the profile amp.

I used the speakers for about 18 months. I will get rid of them if any one wants them (they are in great condition and were never abused). I just have no use for them now (my sister does not want them in her car). She is happy enough with the Kenwood WooX I put in her car last summer.
