New Guy with a 99 with some rattling probs

Hello everyone.....

First off, i just wanna say that i'm FINALLY home. I've been lookin for a protege forum for a long time and found you guys today.

I'm sure my question is a common one, but i wanted to get my foot in the door by introducing myself and gettin some opinions.

My 2 12's are loud and hit hard, and that cheap plastic on the back rattles like crazy. i really don't want to spend the mula on some dinamat and was wondering what you guys had done to limit the noise............

PLUS, if you're in Big-D (Dallas, TX) lemme know. Can't wait to see all the cool **** i've wanted to do for so long.

If you don't wanna use dynamat then use B-Quiet. Cheaper yet efficient.

Welcome to the board! I know exactly what you're talking about with the rear dash or whatever rattling. It's been bugging me for the past two months. I haven't figured out what's rattling in mine. I thought it was the third brake light assembly, but I ripped that apart and it didn't seem to fix it. If weather is nice this weekend, I'll go get down n dirty with mine and see if I can figure out where it's coming from and come up with a solution. I'm on a budget too, so if I can do it without spending any money, and not ghetto'izing it, i'll let you know what I come up with.

oh thank god, that's EXACTLY what i was talkin about. I've spent so much time trying to use silicon between the plastic, and still rattling..........

but i'm thinking about removing the entire rear dash and putting silicon on EVERYTHING. There's got to be something back there rattling around.

NOTE: I'm come to find that Silicon is the greatest "cheap" accessory for sound dampining. All you have to do is be good at only putting a little on. That stuff can be hard to use, but it's cheaper than anything and it works just a good if not better.

Yeah dynamat is expensive, thats why I never buy that stuff.

There is another plan you can get GOOD stuff, and its http://www.sounddeadeningmaterial.com/home.html

I bought some of this material for my computer case (small room, computer on 24/7) and it works great! Its super cheap (ie: price) but other than that, its the best material. They are located in Canada, and are pretty good customer service wise. You shouldn't have a problem with them.

wow! that stuff looks crazy....... now i'm really curious.

i'm gonna go to my local Home Depot and see if they have anyform of that rubber. Their prices weren't bad, but the shipping was pretty high for some reason.

thanx for the info

I have discovered 3 sources of rattling spots on my 2000. 1)The trunk itself. 2)License plate rattles really bad! 3) The bumper piece shakes very bad. This was the one that took a good hour to discover, you can feel it rattling when you out your hand near the rear wheel where the 2 parts of the body meet. If you push it in a little bit it helps the rattling. Mine rattles like ****, but it can be fixed soon.

The rattling in mine seems to be coming from something in the rear dash. I never thought about the rear bumper as far as outside noise, but i'll check into that most definitly. The song by Mr. Cheeks - Lights, Camera, Action really brings out the rattling in my car, so i'm gonna play that song as i tear my rear dash apart again......
