New Box and 12" Jonah's!

here's a few pics of my new box for my two 12" Fusion Jonah Lomu's. each chamber is roughly about 1.5cuft, maybe a little less. i carpeted most of the box, flush mounted the subs and then had the face (a separate piece) painted gloss black. i myself didn't paint the box as i have come to realize why shops charge so much; all that freakin' sanding!!! i decided against a sub floor for money reason's mostly, and i also plan to try different subs from time to time (elemental, id, adire etc.) well, lemme know what you guys/girls think!

my trunk is now unusable. i have very little space, and since i painted the box black, every little nick/scratch will show. but i should be okay for now... until i decide to change everything.

I like the gloss black, it looks very sharp there Hawaiian! The Lomu's should fit you to a "T" buddy- but I do understand the bug of change.
You could get either soft cloth covers made for the box, or a acrylic "spit sheild" that you could cover the box with but remove when you want to show it off. That is a pretty standard route used in cars that are daily users but compete to keep the system from getting banged up with the result being point deductions. I have done the same in the Nissan, it has a large MDF frame with the same black cloth covering it as the floor. It keep the occasions trunk item from ripping up the finish, and keep pryinig eyes from realizing what is really there.
Remeber not letting folks know there is any stereo hardware in the car is the best defense to robbery!
I thing the layers deep look is very cool
Great job!

Nice and clean-- can you still fit your cargo cover on there? How does it sound compared to your previous set up?

just a suggestion for the future; if your gloss black piece does get scratched beyond repair, another alternative would be to cut a sheet of 1/2" clear plexi to the same dimentions with woofer cutouts and all (use your existing gloss piece as a template) Paint it black from the backside, polish the edges, and there you go, a very similar look with no sanding, and if it scratches, you can usually polish it out but it won't need to be repainted.

for all you clowns who noticed my impatience, stop staring at my flaws! LOL j/k! yeah, the left sub is a bit off as i was so impatient to get my subs in, i didn't really center it right as i drilled the holes. at first i didn't think it would bother me, but dammit it's really pissing me off. so i guess i'm gonna have to pull the sub, fill the damn holes and remount it.

i am still using the powerplant 500w amp until i can get my hands on the powerplant 900w class d. but when i first ran it, the bass was in my chest! seriously, there were times when breathing was a bit strenuous. altho i am not an spl guy, i enjoyed the boom a lot. when i get my new amp, i will meter my subs... after i remount the damn things.

don't know if you noticed, but i am about 1/4in off with the height, so i can't use the cover thingy. i guess i'm gonna have to make something cool looking.
