I've had my FM transmitter for years now (so maybe they've improved) but I would compare the sound I get with it to listening to the radio. Sometimes you get a lot of static, sometimes it's very clear. I haven't had buzzing issues with my CD to cassette kit, so I'd say my experience with it has been better than with the FM transmitter. It's certainly more consistent.
