Need help removing center console
Hi,
I am trying to remove my one- piece center console on my
00 Protege ES. It seems that I have to remove a plastic
insert just in front of the handbrake, but I am having trouble
removing it. I'm not sure if I should pry on it with a screwdriver
or not. Any ideas?

Jimy, there are two trim pieces you need to remove .... ONE is the one that goes around the shifter....to remove it put your hands in the cup holder and gently pull back toward the shifter....it pops the whole thing out...the second one is the one around the e-barke handle...put a few fingers in the slit of the e-barke and pull out...both pieces just pop out. NOW....if you look down in the hole below the ebrake...you should see two screws holding it to the floor.....then there are two screws up by the dash, one on either side of the console....NOW for the two you don't see.....get out of the car and slide BOTH front seats as far forward as they will go and on each side near the rear of the console on its sides there is one screw on each side.....remove those and the console is loose. just lift and move it rearwards and its out.

I had a tracer that every freaking panel I took off would lose a few clips, I worked in the body shops business and never had a problem till I got that develish car. Even the screws would strip out. Panel clips on the outside would fall off it sucked.
Nothing like a old school car with all metal clips

Thanx everyone for the input......I finally removed the plastic
insert using a shaved down popsicle stick. I started to pry
at the end nearest the shifter and slowly lifted up. Be careful,
doing this on a cold day might crack the part.
P.S. : this note only applies to the Generation 3 DX,LX and ES
