first of all, most ppl who want a "cheap" system will end up spending more than what they inteded, so i would suggest a modest limit for your car audio. second, what do you want/don't want in your system?

-head unit?
-sub(s)?
-amps?
-components?
-coaxials?

what you want from your system will greatly affect what you need to get and therefore affect your budget. let us know a little more of what you want and we can help ya!

i'm guessing u want a little more base to add to the sound, and maybe a head unit.

2 eights sound good, or even 10's and a box, if u look around u can get them really cheap.

I am a cheap Basturd (spelled correctly).
I put in Pioneers (both doors) from the good ole walmart.
I will replace my head unit soon with Pioneer also from walmart or perhaps best buy/circuit city when the ad price is right. You will need a kit to fill in the dash. Do a search and you will see a thread with pictures and everything! Speakers were about $120 for the two pairs and head unit will be about $135 plus $20 install kit. MORE BEER MONEY!!!!

honestly if you're not an audiophile, some new front speakers, an HU, a small cheap amp, and a single 10" or 12" sub would do just fine...

you *could* just go for a cheap pioneer/alpine HU, some infinity reference or alpine type-S speakers, a cheapy us acoustics amp, and any entry level JL, rockford, kicker or alpine sub... you'd be lookin $150 for a sub, $200 for an amp, $200-300 for an HU, $100 for speakers (all CDN)....

BUT!!! i'm gonna warn you right now, if you're a person who enjoys your music, don't bother getting an "entry level" setup now... you'll only kick yourself in the head later and wonder why you didn't get better stuff... you should really get something you KNOW you'll be happy with later... if you don't have money, work it piece by piece... just get some nice component speakers for now, wait til later, get a nice HU, then some subs/amp... that's just my advice though...

ya

well ya i'm getting a HU...but that is nothing to do with money...i don't care about that.....i just want a system like Invincibleredp5 said...just some more bass.....don't worry about the HU...i'm just asking about the box and speakers to go in it...and i don't really know anything about car audio so when you guys talk about subs and all that stuff i'm all about it.....but thanks for the help....i'll write the stuff down for the future

here is a suggestion for a modest upgrade:

front- jl audio 5x7 coaxials
rear- jl audio 6.5 coaxials
subwoofer/amp- infinity basslink
total cost: +/- $500

you can swap out the jl audio spkrs for any of these and still stay around that $500 mark:
-infinity reference
-jbl
-gs designs
-kicker
-fusion
-etc... all based on prefernce.

this is about as modest as you can get, within a small budget, and still have nice sounds with a little low-end boom. not the greatest, but it should suit your needs without "skimping" on your ride's sounds.

if you want something a little more, just ask and someone here can suggest a better system!

oops, i didn't notice your car. i don't know what the spkr measurements are for your ride, but the companies listed should do you just fine. if you can audition these, even better. i was giving you specs on the protege5's spkrs. sorry 'bout that!

cheapie setup:
alpine sps-5729 fronts
alpine sps-1629 rears (optional)
cheapie amp -- like US Acoustic USA-2100
any single 12" sub/pre-fabricated box

don't expect to win contests with this, but if you just want some umf, it'll do... and once again this is for a P5's measurements

midrange setup:
go with what 1hwn posted earlier or see my sig!

high end setup:
Autotek & MA Audio EVERYTHING! -- or just see 1hwn's setup!

"it's not what you know, it's what you can prove!"

I like it, man - I just saw "Training Day" for the first time last week - great flick! And Denzel plays his role really well.

King Kong ain't got nothin' on ME!

hey guys

i recently made a post about how much something would cost....well here is some more info on it....

my friend is selling this and since i know nothing about car audio i thought i should ask some pros

AMP: Kenwood 4 channel; 50 Rms per channel
SUBS: 2 JL Audio W6 Subwoofers in Custom Decibel Monster box
(everything is practically brand new, especially the box)

how much do you guys think this is worth, in CANADIAN $$$ .....and do you think it'll be good in a '88 323 gtx?

If you're on a budget, your first upgrades should be the speakers followed by an amp. Since the speakers are what physically produce the sound that you hear, it would make the most difference. The next step up would be an amp. Most modern amps have high-level inputs so you can use them with your factory radio. When you save up enough to add on to your system, replace the radio with something that suits your needs.
