How do I uninstall my stock stereo?

scroll down and you'l see a deck, and you'll need a pair of DIN (whatever) tools. I used a coat hanger and made Us out of it.

to take out the stock deck all you have to do is pull the front of console where the radio is. which is where the carbon fiber trim is, and just unplug the hazards, and the cables for the heater and the other stuff. once you take out the console, its gonna be the same thing for the deck. all you have to do is it out straight but are some clips on each side. just use a tiny flat head screw driver to do the job. its better to work with 2 people.

here is my thread on making your very own head unit removal tools from a coat hanger...they worked like a champ
http://www.protegeclub.com/forum/sho...=removal+tools
on either side of the volume and tuner ***** of your hu there are little pieces on the sides of the unit that fill that tiny gap between your head unit and the trim piece....use a tiny screw driver or even a paper clip to pull/pry them off...they only push in on little pins....once you have those pieces off just follow the directions above in that thread and you will soon have the deck in your lap..without taking ANYTHING else apart.

follow the directions Sir Nuke gave... I used a modified approach of what he said and it works just fine... no need to remove anything else other than the HU.
When you are doing it (i.e. installing the new HU) do yourself a favor and mask off the surrounding trim pieces. I did not do this and accidentally managed to scuff the surround. Although it is very minor, everytime I see it I just get pissed off!
