Homemade Bazooka gain control?

Does anybody have knowledge of what the remote gain control for the EL series of Bazooka powered subwoofers consists of? Here's a link to the gain control at Crutchfield (seems how SAS's site is currently not available):

http://www.crutchfield.com/cgi-bin/S...ed&i=204ELABCM

The first thing I would do if I bought one of these would be to remove it from its enclosure and mount it flush in the dash or center console. If the gain control is just an L-pad it would be cheaper to just buy the parts and wire it up myself.

Anybody have a wiring diagram and component list for this? I haven't contacted SAS with this question, but I don't think they would be too eager to tell me how to make my own gain controller instead of buying their own.
