Question Bazooka Sub?

Ok, so I talked my dad into letting me get a sub of some kind, but I may be limited to weither the factory P5 one, or a removeable Bazooka sub of some kind. I've only heard one in person, and it sounded ok for something you could remove in seconds, but has anyone else had experience with them? The bass sounded ok, but how easy is the hookup? Can I use my stock deck?

I'm not looking to wake my neighborhood, but just add a little low-range for the people inside the car. If I advertized in any way, it WOULD get stolen...

If you need to get a removable one, why not look into the Infinty Basslink. I have heard pretty good things about it and it is powered also.

Sweet man! Thanks! It's a little pricey, but since it's Infinity, it'll sound fucken tight I bet!

How would it install? Can I keep my stock deck? If so, how would I wire it in?

With an aftermarket deck, I'll just run the leads to the SW output right?

I'm about as big of a newbie to car stereos as one can get, but I'm interested in learning so anything you can tell me would be great!

Wouldn't doing that send some high range to the sub?

I have a basslink on the way for my car and from hearing it and a bazooka I think the infinity is the way to go. It has highlevel inputs also so you just splice your wires to your rear speakers run power ground and remote wire and your done. I like the way it looks too.

I have heard Bazooka subs in a hatch, truck, and two seaters (Toyota MR2), and they sounded pretty good. This was years ago before being improved upon. Now they seem to be able to handle more power. I used to work for a local shop and we didn't sell too many of them. This is a matter of opinion only, so take it as a grain of salt if anyone disagrees, but when sending stuff back to SAS (who makes Bazookas), we took out the blown woofer for exchange, and the customer kept the enclosure until the new one would arrive. The woofers didn't weigh much at all, and it seemed to be cheaply made.
Now they have different lines of drivers, so they probably improved on this. But at the time, I was thinking that you were paying for the enclosure and the patents behind it more so than the quality of the driver installed in the enclosure. I think they would work if you don't put too much power on them (which is how a lot of people blew theirs).
Again, I am not downing the product, I just thought they were kind of pricey and not very good quality. I would think that if you bought an amplified version, then that would be best because they are made for each other (unlike Kid Rock and Pamela Anderson).

That is just my two cents though.

How would the Infinity compare to the Kenwood powered 10" sub that comes stock in the MP3? I'm considering getting a single 10" sub/enclosure and an amp. I don't need anything earth shattering, but the Kenwood doesn't really do much and distorts quite easily. Probably a poor quality amp in the Kenwood sub.

Maxx,
I did some searching, mainly on google groups. Have any unbiased consumer reviews I can read (links etc)? My main concern is that getting the Basslink would sound like the current Kenwood 10" powered sub that I have which came with the MP3. If that is the case, I will look elsewhere. But christ, on Ebay they're going for $170 new, so I guess I could just give it a try.

Chris,

I think it was actually on this site here that I found some good info on it. It's biased, yes, but still helpful. You're right, for $170 it's worth a try.
