I looked everywhere to see if there's a hole made already, but there isn't. I have a 04' so I'm not sure if it's the same procedure. If you look behind the battery terminal there is a circle rubber piece about 6inches down from the wall. Remove that and cut a whole. It's rubber so I melt it with my soldering kit. Put that back in and just stick the wire through. After that I ran the wire through the driver side floor panel. You can get to the rubber part by going underneath the driver side sort of behind the pedals. Water don't have access to it b/c of where it's located so You don't have to worry about it.

When I installed aftermarket power locks on my 07' Mazda 3, I took out the glovebox and there's a rubber boot back against the firewall, it's held in by clips and that's where all the electronics went through the firewall.

I'm about to enlarge the hole used for the hood release cable to run my power wires through - saves a lot of wire and looks cleaner not to run the wires across the engine bay... i'm hoping it works out as cleanly as I expect.

A I was looking to make the hood release cable firewall hole larger, I noticed there's a white plastic plug behind the gas pedal which would support the older style gas pedal cable. This hole is large enough for a couple 6AWG wires I think, i'm going to expand it a bit for 4AWG wiring. Nonetheless it's a hole that's almost on the drivers side if you don't want to run wiring all the way across. It's also fairly well hidden behind / under the power brake booster diaphram.

Good luck

NCmazda3 is an unknown quantity at this point
I got 2 AWG and 8 AWG through that hole with only a little filing. If you have an automatic, there's a big white plug in place of the clutch that works perfectly as well.
