Have you heard Polk/MOMO subs?

I just wanted to know people's thoughts on the Polk/MOMO subwoofers. I've never had a chance to hear em so i just wanted to know if they were worth the money you pay for them and what are the best kinds of subs?

I haven't heard them but I think they are a waste of money. They are a fairly basic subwoofer with flashy cosmetics. Unless you have a MOMO fetish or something.

There are better subs out there for less money....that still look great if that's what you are going for.

My personal fav is the Cerwin-Vega IT series.

Also worth considering (what I considered when I was shopping...)

Eclipse 87-series (black mica cone, basket looks similar to the momo)
Pioneer Premier pro
Kicker L7/L5
Crystal CMP
Image Dynamics IDQ
JL W3v2
XTANT hexagon sub

obviously I ended up with a Vega IT-12.0 because of the price (the price I got it for at least )

It is just a name Polk slapped on. It'll end up costing you more just to have 'name-brand' subs. Don't do it.

I wouldn't buy a MOMO sub even if it costed 50$, I'm kind of a MOMO hater, mostly because of all the ricers here with their MOMO everything ricemobiles.

IMO MOMO makes quality products regardless of the stupid ricers that buy MOMO **** just because they saw it in Fast and the Furious..........

I like some of MOMO's interior stuff, specially the shift *****, but I wouldn't buy a car audio product from them.

I listened to some of their subs at NOPI here in Atlanta a couple weeks ago, and it didn't sound that bad. But there were tons of other cars blaring in the background along with cars burning out, so you couldn't listen to it alone.

yea i kno what u mean. one of the only reasons y i thought about getting the Polk/MOMOs are b/c they're not bad in power and they have a box already. i didn't really want to go thru the process of getting a box then puttin a sub in it. but now that i realize that it really is very pricey and probably not worth the money. i'm thinking about maybe one 10" or 12" kenwood sub in a bandpass box. what u think of that? are kenwood subs good?

It's all in the install. I wouldn't go with bandpass though, they don't work that well in cars and end up being one note wonders unless they are precisely tuned. If you want loudness, go with a custom tuned ported enclosure. Trust me, if it's done right, it will be quite loud. If you build it yourself it's alot cheaper too.
The basic Kenwoods are alright but I would go with the new Excelon's if you want Kenwood.
I'm an SQ fan myself (I go with sealed) but it's always fun to test out a new design for SPL (personal bragging rights: first SPL box I did for 1 12" did 143.3db from 300 watts rms in a Civic)

It is definitely possible to make lower-end equipment sound pretty good with the right tuning and design.

eDesign Rocks

I have to agree with Blue on this one. I finally got my eDesign sub (single 12") installed today and its awesome. I listened to just about everything in several places around here, Circuit City, Good Guys, and 2 local shops and the eDesign sounds better then everythign I looked at in my price range (under $200).

I have heard the Polk MOMO subs, they sound ok, but they wouldn't be my first choice. I am ordering new subs right now actually, I am getting the Fosgate RFD2212 Punch HX2. Personally i would go with either fosgate or MTX subs, but thats just me.
