Has anyone installed laser leds in the gauges?

I was looking for a good write up on how to get the gauges out and installing laser leds.

Does anyone have this info?

Laser leds are what is used on new cars. They use they for things like brake lights and such.

I got a kit, it ran me about $75 and it is basically a small ring which goes around the post theat hold the needle of each guage.

So the lights are behind the guage face and reflect out through the needles and the cutout for the numbers and symbols.

I hoped that made sense. I just wanted to know how to get the dash apart.

are you refering to the kits that make your needles look like this?

if so, DO NOT DO IT IF IT MEANS REMOVING YOUR NEEDLES! to many people have tried to remove thier needles only to find that they break off way too easily causing your gauges to be scrapped.

Yes thats the kit I got.

Why are people breaking thier needles are they doing something wrong?

If they went on, they have to come off, without breaking them.

personally, i think if you are VERY careful about how you take them off, you probably won't have a problem. most people are not that careful, and they snap the shaft or something. make sure you post pics when you are done!

I've even read a few tales of install shops breaking the Protege needles when installing Indiglo's - and they are supposed to be "professionals"

Be careful. A new gauge cluster ain't cheap. And if you do get them off without breaking them, please let us know how!
